Tradesman rates in Aussie are high. It would be cheaper to buy tools than pay a builder.

If it's at all boutique it's extremely unlikely to be available used at an affordable price in Australia. Even GK is big bucks in Aussie.

You bloody Kiwi!.. I resent that! Seriously though - unlike the other thread which did hint at the difficulty in finding bass gear in my specific circumstances, the main point of this one is information gathering and not to bog the conservation down with those sort of specifics. Also, not having made the thread too specific, other people in same boat can potentially benefit. I noticed there wasn't a 'best bang for buck' thread for 1x15" cabs so I thought I would create one.

Again, while it is true that I am constrained by budget more than others countries with more abundant cabs if I am browsing the used market at least I will know what to look for or head towards. I also was not specifically thinking of DIY build stuff - I discussed that in another thread. Not that it makes much difference - but yes, shipping cabs is not being ruled out as the lighter weight of some Neo cabs can make the shipping ridiculously cheap.

What does a 3/4" built TL606 with neo come in at?

I've got a TL606 already. It was built by someone else in the 80s presumably, but it's too heavy (30kg) to carry on my own.

It has an Eminence Delta speaker, which according to specs weighs 5.6kg. In comparsion a 3015 Kapplite weighs in at 3.6kg, so for a weight saving of 2kg, it's not worth a speaker swap. The plywood used on the cab is too thick.. I believe.

I have seen some other TL606s for sale, but mostly they look like older grey rat fur covered ones like mine, I'm also not sure how to tell if they are lighter ones. If the original TL606 plans stressed a specific gauge of ply which weighs more, then my chances of finding a lighter used TL606 are pretty slim!

Can you see that by being too picky on your search it leads to no useful data? Everything with a 15 in it qualifies by ignoring one of the parameters.

Must weigh less than...
Must cost less than ... landed in Aussie.

FYI 50lb box runs you US$256 for postage. If you know a cheaper way I'm all ears.

FI other Aussies with bigger needs and budgets you can get Barefaced from the UK sent at quite advantageos rates. Also Thomman have a fantastic deal on shipping if you risk their seriously useless packing skills.

Please don't take offense but from my perspective you are beginning to look ignorant or trying to annoy "the Aussie" - "asking too much this", "picky that" - if you see my earlier post in this thread (Best bang for buck, lightweight 1x15" cab?), it states that this thread has a different goal and is NOT a continuation of the conversation in the other thread you were contributing to.

Cheap as possible, 25kg or Under, non-DYI is not asking too much. No other requirements at this stage

Not trying to be annoying. Nobody finds relevant threads to this sort of enquiry with the search setup here. They are there but the search noise is overwhelming.

Put a limit on the price if you want the discussion to do any good for yourself. Nevermind anyone else. I posted what it costs to mail a 50lb cab, how do think I got that info? I searched it up on the USmail calculator, everhelpful DUW.

As someone hinted earlier, I found a couple of empty cabs on ebay from the USA. Could anyone comment whether the design looks decent in terms of dimensions and porting etc.? I can't find a single review out there.. Pics are available, but I couldn't post the ebay picture links for some reason.

1X15 Empty Bass Guitar Speaker Cabinet

• two 4”dia.X4” Long plastic port tube to help with the tuning
• Size : 21-1/2"W X 16"D X 23-1/2"H. weight, 32 lbs empty,
• Construction: ¾” (18mm) light weight multilayer plywood

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1X15-Empt...item51a0f2f5cf

MiniBG115-E, 15" Empty Bass Guitar Speaker Cabinet

• one 4”dia.X3”L plastic port tube to help with the tuning see picture 4
• Size : 18"W X 16"D X 18"H. weight, 26 lbs empty,
• Construction: ¾” (18mm) light weight multilayer plywood

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/MiniBG115...item519dd5153e

With those weights, 32 and 26 lbs respectively, I could probably even skip using a neo speaker and could save some $.

???? Postage for 30lb would be around $150. More if volumetric pricing kicks in.

PlanC, get a cabinet shop to cut the pieces for a TL606.

Feel free to contribute to this thread if there are any 1x15"s that haven't been mentioned - but for the time being I have this solved. I found an old Australian Made Sovtek 1x15 (not many around), dirt cheap and a bit lighter than my TL606 (which will be sold). It also gives me the oppurtunity to look at neo speakers down the track, if necessary.

I think mine is 45-ish lbs (about 20.5kg) with neo. But it is also 3/4" birch plywood, covered in ABS laminate, aluminum edges and steel corners and handles. It could be made with 1/2" ply, minimal hardware and Dura-Tex coated for lighter weight.

I also have a TL806 1x12" (finished the same way as my TL606) that only weighs 23 lbs (10.5kg w/ 3012HO neo)! It's just as loud, but not as deep.

Both are easy to make, and modify.

You could do a lot worse for a lot more money, or more weight, or less performance...

I´ve just ordered a Barefaced Compact from Alex, the manufacturer (UK). I´ve only read but good reviews of it. And it weighs at ridiculous 27 pounds (12 Kilos) Can anything go any lighter? Not cheap though, but my back will thank my decision.

Those two ebay links are for MDF cabs. Very heavy.

Unless you find something used locally, the cheapest route is to build your own. The TL606 is a great option with the Eminence 3015. You could build it with lightweight 1/2 inch ply and I would bet you could get it to 45-50LBS maybe less.

That would be your best option for an awesome sounding, light-ish cab that would not be too expensive. You could even hire a local wood worker /furniture maker to cut the wood for you, which is the hardest part.

Great cab. I owned one. Extremely portable. Tonally its quite even sounding with a bit of upper mid bite. It will not do extreme deep lows, but it is a very nice cab. Kinda wish I kept mine.
