Best cab with Mesa 400+?

I've been playing my Mesa 400+ through an Eden XLT 410 for a while, and I'm pretty satisfied with the sound I get, but I was curious if anyone else had recommendations to a cab to match my amp. I play metal with a pick and prefer a brighter, punchier tone for my playing. I've felt an Ampeg 810 doesn't get the edge I get with my Eden cab. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

How about an 8X10 with a horn?

Might wanna try two ampeg 410he's. They have a similar sound to an 8x10 but have horns. You get more top end with the horns and still have that low mid hump to get you some punch.

But if you really like your Eden get another and double your pleasure.

I personally really like the ampeg 810 with the 400+. I have an 06 so it's from the "darker" years but it gets me the tone I crave so it works for me.

At the risk of over redundancy, lol , a 215 w/3015s or 15PR400s (with or without high frequency/horn), or a 2x15/2x6.5 w/3015LFs & 6ND410s.

Shhh...

If everyone catches on that there are better/louder/lighter/lower options out there bass tone will dramatically improve as the weight of gear goes down.

I don't have a 400+, but my D180 is close.

I used to own Mesa PH410 and 115 cabs, but I sold them after I tried a pair of Bergantino AE210's. Bergs seem to go well with all the different Mesas I have owned (D180, 2 x M9 and a BB750).

I Do think that one of the best tones I have ever heard was a friends 400+ thru a Diesel 215 though. Killer. This cab was made for the 400+ (literally!)

+1

I use a tube head with my 1515/66/1, it can get staggeringly loud.

Nothing wrong with the current line of Mesa PH cabs if you like that rock voicing, punch, and edge. I have owned the 4x10, 2x12, 2x10, 1x12 and tried the 1x15 in store (A/B vs the 410). I've also owned the Diesel 1x15 (was great, but you really need 2 to get monstrous... I've used the 2x15 before and it's insane). The PH cabs are all a little different. The 4x10 is my beast for the stage. It's a big enclosure and has a huge sound. I have been blown away by the 1x12 though, it is very big sounding and a dash tighter and brighter than the others. Two 1x12's would probably trump the 2x12. I swear by PH cabs and have gone through many other cabs trying to find the same magic (I believe a big part of the "magic" is the tweeter/tweeter control).

The weakness of the PH line is a tiny scoop somewhere in the mids. It seems to facilitate the aggressive and percussive fingerstyle I use for prog metal, but when I do my hip hop gig where I go for more an even more growly funk sound I use a different cab with more of a middy vintage voicing (a tweeterless Buster! Bass 2x10 wedge loaded with Eminence Delta 10B's).

In general Ampeg and Ampeg style cabs get me close but are a dash dark, I've owned 4 SWR cabs while using the 400 and sold them all. I use a 6550 loaded 400 and a D180.

I have a soft spot for the 400+/2x15 EVM 15L's to be honest.

I also love the Sansamp with my 400. It can brighten up any rig/cab combo and add a little bit of that nice fuzz. May get the job done for less than a new cab.

My Mesa 400 sounds fabulous with my modern PH cabs with either the 10's or 12's.
But still, my ultimate favorite cab tone with that head is the old Diesel 215. The midrange bite and low-mids are beautiful, but the old EV's aren't known for handling loud deep lows.
I know for a fact though that the Eden 410XLT hits deeper lows than the Diesel 215 because I once borrowed my buddy's 410XLT. If you like your cab, simply get a 2nd one. The Eden's have tweeters. But if you're wanting to get into Mesa cabs, then the ones with 10's might just be your thing as I feel the upper mids are brighter.

IMO 400+ is best paired with a TL-606 styled 215.

The twin EV-15L approach would kill. I found the Greenboy designed Dually with Faital Pro speakers to bring back memories of that golden setup minus the back pain.

I have 2 400+'s cause I love them so much since the late 80's. I have a PH412 that works nice but the PH215 with Faital Pro HP1020's is lighter than stock and a monster.
