Best Cabinet for Markbass Little Mark III

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello, I am new to this site and I am sure this question has come up a million times. Which cabinet would you recommend for a Littlemark III? My style is Classic Rock - 60's, 70's and big hair 80's. I currently play through a vintage Earth Sound Research Series 400 head with 2x15 vertical cabinet. This equipment is too heavy for me to move by myself so I bought the LMIII and now want a cabinet to go with it. I play an Alvarez 5 string with active pickups. I have seen Avatar cabs and they look ok but I have not heard any. I guess I would like to find someone that has some sounds they can share or video showing the Avatar, GK, Markbass, Orange and any other cabs you think might go will with this new amp and style. This seems like a great forum. I look forward to your feedback!

Thanks! Dave

Agreed. I have one on order. I just picked up a Markbass CL300 to play through it. But the LMII is a back up.

I've heard good things of it paired with Bergantino AE series.

The LMII/III goes so well with so many cabs - Avatar, Bergantino, Epifani, Genz Benz, LDS, Schroeder, etc. - that your best bet is to try out a few pairings at a Guitar Center and boutique retailer, if possible, to see which you prefer.

Mine is paired with the berg AE410. Perfect to my ears.

As always, go to the store and try things.

Sidenote : I didn't like the markbass amp + markbass cabinet (410)

Given he is coming from a 2 x 15 cab, the 4ohm version of that cab with the LMIII might totally do it for him, and what a price on that cab!

4ohm version would be KEY with this head, which puts out a surprising amount of volume and warm but clean tone into a relatively high SPL cab at 4ohms.

I agree. I pair mine with Avatars and it goes 'boom'!

Thanks for all of the feedback! It sounds like the Avatar TB153 is the way to go. My concern is that I have not really heard one and since I have not actually seen one, I can't tell how heavy they are. If someone has a link or video, I would sure like to see or hear it. I can handle 63 lbs but wonder about the lighter ones out there such as GK and Markbass. I notice renniw says he does not like the Markbass. Are there any others you guys might recommend? Thanks!

At the intro price of $399 you can't beat it!

This just in. Guitar Center wants me to look at either a Markbass Traveler 121H 1x12 or a MB New York 151. Both are 8 ohms. I thought you were supposed to try to match the ohms of the cabinet with the ohms of the amp? I'm pretty sure my LMIII is 4 ohms. Does anyone have a comment? Thanks.

running two 8 ohm cabs in parallel brings you to 4 ohms. You'll get the full 500W from the LMIII

That's cool Tasteebass, but I would really like to stick with one smaller cabinet. The Avatar sure looks like it can't be beat for the price and size.

Your amp will work perfectly with an 8-ohm load, or a 4-ohm load. If you give it an 8-ohm load (like using a single 8-ohm NY151 cab), the amp will put out 300 watts. If you give it a 4-ohm load (like using two 8-ohm NY151 cabs), the amp will put out 500 watts.

I have a Markbass Jeff Berlin Combo and a NY151 extension cab. It is essentially the same as taking your LMIII and putting it on top of a pair of stacked NY151 cabs. My MB rig sounds fantastic, and I love the portability! The NY151 cab weighs a measly 37 pounds!

That's why I sugessted it. Should be a killer half stack. Can't wait for a review. I got my finger on the button because of that price, even I have no justification for buying another cab!!

I currently have;
------------------------
Carvin BX1200 head
Dr. Bass 1260 3-way cab
Dr. Bass 112LF cab
Carvin MB10 250w combo - killer little amp
Behringer B4500H head - backup
Behringer 30w combo - just sittin there cuz of the MB10

Avatar TB153

I have a B212 and I think it is a great cab.. granted.. I am not using a LMkIII.. (I'm using a Shuttle 6.0) but I am sure that the cab would still sound great on that III.. it is $400 & 63 lbs.. I am actually thinking of getting one and leaving it at my church.. selling my 4 ohm Schro and taking the B212 that I have at the church now and keeping that one at home and using it on gigs.. (Of course I'd have to try the 153 as well.. but... I'm just gassing at the moment anyway..)

I like the 102P MarkBass cabs. But I have not tried that new Avatar. I previously played through an Avatar 4x10, and it was a very very nice cab.

I'd like to hear the TB153 and the B212 in a side-by-side comparison myself. The B212 is another great B4B cab.

You absolutely cannot go wrong with avatar cabs if you like the sound of them.
