Best examples of the SVT sound?

Sign in to disble this ad
What are some of the best examples of the classic SVT sound? Who are the guys you think of and what are the best recorded eaxamples?

Gene Simmons on ALIVE is one of the best examples to me. Im not even a big fan of his but that sound is undeniable. Massive. VH1 is showing a KISS show from 1998 and his sound is still the same. Good stuff.

Who else?

Probably not the definitive SVT tone you were looking for but Rocco Prestia doesn't suck: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VUFxj59Fa9o

I don't see the Ampeg badge on the head but his rig appears to be an SVT on top of two 810's stacked horizontally.

Chris Wood's tone when he plays his P-bass in Medeski Martin & Wood is a damn nice SVT sound.

There is a lot more to Tim C.'s tone than the SVT. Damn near everyone you can think of uses them though. Mike Inez, Eric Wilson, Claypool.

I believe the first album was on a Stingray but he has used a passive Fender jazz bass ever since

Early Gov't Mule...even the first three studio recordings (Gov't Mule, Dose, Edge of Insanity).

Early Pat Travers (Mars Cowling)

Black Oak Arkansas ("Give 'em some bottom Dirty!")

Well, I was thinking Cliff Williams, but I saw these two videos and I agree that Gene Simmons is a very good example!

The first one is good but I think the second one is the best.
