Best extension cab for an Ampeg BA500 210 combo?

Sign in to disble this ad
Just wondered what would be some good extension cab options for an Ampeg BA500 combo. We're a somewhat loud 60's-80's cover band (our lead and drummer compete in the tinnitus sweepstakes), so the combo alone is not quite getting thru. Of course the BA500 already weighs in at a backbreaking 90 pounds, so any lightweight options would be great... Thanks!

the new ampeg portaflex 210 would probably be a good matchup. they're built similarly enough to where it would probably work out well with it. not available till early march, though.

btw, it will take an extension cab, right? i know the ba115 won't...not sure about the ba500.

Over the years I've paired my BA500 with an Ampeg BXT210M, SVT-410HLF & SVT-610HLF. All of these 4 ohm cabs have sounded great with it.

Yes, has one speakon and 2 1/4" jacks. The amp can go down to 2 ohms. The internal combo speakers are 4 ohm, so you can hook up another 4 ohm extension cab.

I used to jam with freinds with a BA500 paired with an SVT18. It was monstrously loud, and sounded about as good as that amp will allow. I'd think either something like that, or a 1x15 if you can find a 4 ohm 15, or better yet, a good 2x10. Having a matching cab will always trump any other option, that BXT210M mentioned above would smoke- PLUS give you a tilt-back option. The BXT series is long discontinued, and WAY under appreiciated- great sounding "modern" Ampeg.

You guys must be very loud. In one of my bands (the one where I play guitar and sing) my bassist uses that BA500 and we are a very loud 3 piece. He never pushed it more than half and must I say, the tone is completely fantastic.
