Best head for my style?

Sign in to disble this ad
My band plays a very heavy style of rock similar to Killswitch Engage, Disturbed, Breaking Benjamin, etc. I have been using an Acoustic half stack for the past year, and I am starting to look for an upgrade. I want to make the jump to a tube head, and need some advice on bass heads for my style. Of course, the SVT line would be awesome, but I don't want to spend two grand. Any advice would be great, and thanks ahead.

Also, we play all of our original stuff in Drop C, and sometimes in B. So a low growl and tight high end is critical.

Personally, I think that for your style of music, you need something pretty HI-FI sounding. A head that will have fast response to your playing, and will be pretty even across all tonal ranges. An all tube head might be to pillowy for you. I would look into the used Mesa Boogie Carbine line. Also the Mesa Big Block 750. I used one of those on the warped tour last summer... Killer head.

I double that. Mesa seems to fit every description you're making. In fact, Mike D (bassist from Killswitch) actually plays a Mesa!

GK

I would suggest nearly anything GK. I have a 1001 RB-II and a 412 neo and play similar type of music, and with my Spector it sounds spectacular.

Get an Ampeg SVT 3 Pro and a 410he or 410HLF depending on what would work better for you. You'll be able to get that killswitch tone then if you've got the right bass.

pretty much any head will work as long as you're happy with it.
