I just picked up a TB-1200 and I love it! I've tested out a lot of heads and this one ended up being the best of the crop to my ears. I can get a nice deep, warm tone with just a touch of tube drive for a little extra warmth. It's the perfect sound for the kind of music I play. It's a little heavy ( @ 34 lbs), but the sound quality more than makes up for it.

edit: I too, had the same experience with the Streamliner. I got my hopes up because everyone was hyping it so much over of its weight and its (attempt) to get a vintage sound. To me, it sounded dull and fake. Those are the only words I can use to describe what I heard. The Fender, on the other hand, easily gets the vintage tone and can also get a more modern sound if that's your thing.

yeah, I'm aware this is an older thread. But, I'm kinda looking for the same kind of thing, BUT, I'm looking for a COMBO amp. Again, I'm looking for a more vintage sound ala an Ampeg B-15, but with more wattage and tons cheaper (hopefully around 500 US bucks or less).

I'm curious to see how green the grass is on the other side. I've been using my solid state Peavey 80 watter combo for 20 plus years. It's been good to me, but, it is getting up there in age and I think I might need just a bit more wattage. I'm open to either all tube or alien/human hybrids..but, they must be lighter than a Mack truck and won't make my wallet cry too much.

what's yer suggestions??? I'm all ears (and arms and legs)...

More wattage AND tons cheaper? You are familiar with how the world works, right?

But seriously, it's over $500 but maybe one of the Portaflex heads and cabs. Or maybe a Micro VR if you want really light weight and can deal with a medium-duty rig.

yeah, that's true. but, I'm really more interested in combos. at my age, my back ain't what it should be, plus I just think I prefer the portability.

too bad...there used to be a Carvin store right up the street from me, too. But, the nearest store is now the Hollywood locale.

The OP was referring to high power heads.
As much as I agree about the WA tone, I also sold a perfect unit as 300 watts was just not enough with clean headroom for my application.

Just have fun...

I've heard that the Acoustic amps of the 70's were pretty good, McCartney played through one. The new ones that I've seen so far have all been smallish practice amps.

When I'm at NAMM in a couple of weeks, I'm taking a notepad with me while at the many booths. this is of course, assuming that my feet will still be working correctly.

Last year (I think), I fell in love with the B-15...now, THAT'S THEEE SOUND I WANT!!! but, there's no way that I'll be able to afford that, plus, it's only 25 or 30 watts. My tiny lil Vox T-25 is 25 watts

Isn't a 20 plus year amp "Vintage"?

Let's go back to 1969 is that Vintage? , Santana at woodstock

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rwFNJfri5TI

Solid state acoustic 360 = Vintage and "Warm"?

There's a percussion and bass break down. There's no Mic on the 360 though. As with all "vintage" recordings consider what you're actually hearing.

Carlos Santana is playing through a Solid-State Gallien (Krueger) amp. He has a mic.

New "Acoustic" amps and ones from 60's, 70's, 80's have nothing in common except the name.

There is a mic on the left 301 cab. It's on the upper opening and it's a Shure 565. See it from shots of the drummer.

Still not sure of the signal path to the recording console.

Wow. Three pages of thread and not one mention for Orange! The Orange Terror Bass is the best 'vintage' sounding hybrid I've tried, and they also do it in a combo form.
