Sign in to disble this ad
I'm hoping if people can recommed me a 1 x 10" or 1x12" combo.
I'm looking for something which is lightweight, will let me set-up and pack-up, and get in and out of venues as quickly as possible.
This will be used for gigs as stage monitoring for me and the drummer not just for rehearsals.
Needs to have the following features:
- tilt-back style,
- decent DI with separate Level control, pre/post switch,
- aux in
- heaphones out
- option of adding an external ext. speaker
- 300watts + with internal speaker.
I've searched the forum and read bits and pieces all over the place but thought it would better to start a thread and gather all the info in one place.
Music going to be used for, is all types, rock to smooth jazz to world music, slap, fingerstyle, and 5 string bass with a B string, so I need something which will handle the B string reasonably well.
Thanking you all in advance. |

While playing rock (with a 5 string bass you say), something that will work as a stage monitor for you AND the drummer will not be a 1X10 or 1X12 to my knowledge. If there is something like that, I would like to know as well.
So how about these?: http://www.guitarcenter.com/Markbass...42-i1395929.gc
Tilt-back but has no aux in and headphones out. http://www.guitarcenter.com/TC-Elect...00-i1481065.gc
Not a tilt-back but has many many features including the ones you ask for. (I'm not sure about "decent DI with separate Level control, pre/post switch"...)

| | | | Genz Benz Shuttle series has some really great sounding combos. The direct out records well too. (I am using the Shuttle Max 6.0 which has both FET and tube channels. the FEt is the one i have ben using inthe studio.) |

Actually, any of the super lightweight heads might do as they're easy to carry anyway (such as MarkBass, Carvin BX500, GK 500, etc). A 1x12 (+horn if desired) from Shroeder, or an LDS cabinet, or even a fearful 1x12 (+6) could get plenty of volume. |

You should be able to find one for super cheap somewhere used as they're discontinued.
This will give you something now and lots of time to really test out a bunch of other gear while you save for something newer.

Volume is fairly well controlled and NOT crazy LOUD.
I would have thought for that type of situation a wedge style combo i.e 1x10 or 1x12 would be more than enough.
Anyway after doing some more research there doesn't seem to be too many options with all the features I'm looking for. Here in Australia it's hard to get mainstream gear at reasonable prices at the best of times. I am willing to buy from overseas and ship it over myself if that is my only choice.
Some of the combos I was interested in was the following,
- EA iamp500wizzy12 combo - tilt style
- GK Neo112/700RBII-tilt style
- Line 6 112 - tilt style
- Hartke Hydrive-C112-tilt style
- MarkBass 210Combo-tilt style
- SWR Spellbinder 12
Out those my preference is either the EA Wizzy or GK700RB but no damn dealer here in Aus can get them.
Anyone have any experience with any of mentioned combos and can you share your thoughts. i'm especially interested in the Line 6, this looks very interesting and versatile.

After that, GK and EA. |

My Hartke HyDrive 115c is 250 watts with a single speaker and many, but not all, of the other systems you require. Based on my experience with my 115c, I'd suspect the 112c would probably fit your needs.

4 out of 6 is close! | +1. Before the combo G-K sold a 12", 8 Ohm, un-ported speaker cabinet. Very light weight (12 lb) & plenty of sound for a stage monitor with 150w. When more is needed I stack it with the 15" speaker from my Hartke KB 15. I drive it with an AI Clarus SL (150w at 8 Ohm, 250w at 2 Ohm) which weighs 2.5 lbs & fits in the pocket of a gig bag. I like AI's stuff. The Clarus Combo may be more hifi/acoustic than you like but, it's worth a look.
I find the PJB Briefcase sounds thin but am told the PJB Suitcase has a full sound.
Good hunting, 8-)
