Best name in bass amps

Reading through a recent thread I was amazed by the great variation of opinion on various manufacters: "I love Fender", "I would never own a Fender", etc.

My question is; what in your opinion are the best name brands for Bass amps and in what order?

I'm really curious to see the results!

Thank you

There are very few truly bad bass amps these days. Mostly it's a matter of taste, although I would recommend staying away from the bottom of the barrel budget cabs since most of them suck out loud.

1. CRATE
2. Kustom
3. Bugera

Work your way down from these three.

The best amp is the one you like.

The best amp is always the one I just paid way too much money for.

That one is only good until you pay too much money for the next one.

What's the best beer?
What's the best football team?
Who's the best Bond?

Entirely subjective IMO.

I think you would need to do an unscientific poll to find out the most popular brands on these here forums. Even then, it will only be a handful of people who answer.

I know this one!

It's Ampeg because the word "amp" is in the name.

That's all the logic and reasoning you need right there,

1-Glockenklang / Merlin( no longer made) on par and really quite different from one another.
2-Hevos

For me anyways and in this order.

I've always felt the best name in amps is Glockenklang, just because it sounds so cool and Kraftwerk-y. But I don't mean to say their amps sound or perform better than other brands, necessarily.

Exar's business is on hold for now. I will still help previous customers.

For rock and metal and big stage stuff, i have owned an Ampeg SVT, a Peavey Mark IV and my current (to me) Mesa M-2000. The Mesa is a godsend, i hated the Ampeg and some days i miss the Peavey. It had a 4x12 dual ported cab from the 70s and i think was a full frequency amp. I sold it for money for things of vanity, not things i needed. I have also had an old school peavey 115 combo and it was a workhorse.

I really do love my Mesa though. I've used it with my Upright even.

I just got an Ibanez Promethean a week ago. The 5110, not the new one. Its freaking amazing!

Hopefully i can get the 110c extension cab and that will probably set me for my big, medium and small rigs for life!

Crate sucks.

As with most things, "best" is only really "preference". Popularity is quite another thing, and not the best way to judge any piece of gear.
