First let me say: I'm broke, mismatching brands doesnt bother me that much and I don't plan on buying a cabinet off the TB Classifieds.
That being said, my 1x15 recently took a dump on me (my own dumb fault 4x10 + 1x15 is bad apparently). So I am in need (or at least want) of a new cabinet to pair with my Legion EMI-410 or to replace it altogether.
At this point I'm looking at new just so I can get a warranty and whatnot in case of any issues.
I've gotten a lot of responses through other threads about matching 4x10s but to get matching decent cabs I'd need much more than $400. So I come to you Talkbass, what cabs have you had luck with or heard good things about that fall under the $400 mark?
Thanks in advance.

| | I wouldn't change one stupid decision... | | Join Date: Aug 2011 Location: Maryland | | Used is definitely the way to go. You should check out the talkbass Classifieds or your local craigslist for the best deals.
I'd look at 4x10's exclusively if you're looking to pair it with your Legion. Hell, for $400 you may even be able to find a nice 4 ohm cabinet and chuck the Legion.
I'd look for Peavey (TX series, pretty much all of their cabinets are pretty nice for the money), SWR (I use their 6x10, and love it), GK, Trace Elliot, or Hartke products. On the east coast, I've found a lot of really nice deals for 4x10's, so you should be pretty capable.
(Also COUGHCOUGH I'm selling a GK 4x10 that you may be interested in ) |

All tens or all 15s may sound better, that's yer call.
I use Seismic Audio. Google it.
It's the same speakers(most likely) as what is in yer Legion. I'm very happy with my 2x10 & 15 cab. It sounds good to me and my 'listeners'.
One year warranty. Cabs are made of waferboard(again like yer Legion), do not rattle, and are pretty stout. Not designer top of the line, but not crap either. For $400, you could try another 4x10(which 'matches' yer Legion), or a new 15. Or both.
Good luck.

Ampeg, swr, Eden would be good. |

Ampeg, swr, Eden would be good. | After a little craigslist digging I found what the owner claims to be a Mesa 410 for very cheap. I'm waiting on more proof pictures before I go check it out but this could either be the deal of a lifetime or some loser trying to pawn off a broken cab.
Everyone keep the suggestions coming though!

Good luck. | If you haven't been paying attention, one of the reasons the 4x10+1x15 is "BAD" is because it makes it VERY EASY to fry the 15's since you're asking the single 15" speaker to take as much wattage as you're giving FOUR other speakers in the other cab. Thus this poor bass player looking for a new cab...hopefully used, and hopefully locally or on the TB Classifieds.

The 410MBE goes for about $450 new, and the 212MBE is $400 and is ridiculously loud. The drivers are the same as the GK NEO series, but the cabs are a thinner ply, the tweeters are cheaper with no pad so they're either on or off, there's no bi-amp option, and the handles are just adequate.
Or Carvin. Their standard 410 cab is $300 + shipping. Any problems with and you'll pay return shipping to CA for warranty repairs. |

Is also a tremendous deal in terms of price, portability/weight, durability, low-end capability and power handling. It's only a 2x10 but it can go toe-to-toe with most 4x10s and many high-end multi-speaker cabs as well. It's one of the best cabs you can get for the money (new, that is) and they're great in terms of customer service and warranty support. Their amps may not be for everyone, but these BRX model cabs are unbelievable for the price. |

Good luck. | There's a big difference between a 210/15 combo vs. a 410/15 pairing. 210/15 can be fine, the other, never.

I try to never say never, however. The OP was using a 4x10/15, and I just used that info to help him. Not trying to mislead anyone.

am buying the PF 15 cab to go with my PF500 head. Am using the Avatar SB112 for a lot of small/med rooms. it is 6 years old, and easily paid for itself. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
