Best rigs for Funk & Synthy stuff (octaves, LPF's)

Sign in to disble this ad
I currently have an SWR 350 red face head and a Goliath II and I think it's time for a change. I'm just not digging my tone anymore.

I'm looking for some advice as to what to get. I do a lot of fingerfunk/jamiroquai type stuff but also a lot of synthy Octave + LPF type stuff as well so the rig needs to be able to handle both. It doesn't need to be absurdly loud because I'd rely on the house PA's for that, but it does need to be able to sound great during rehearsals and as a backline. I'm open to any suggestions for rigs, simple or complex as well as going the PA route for my personal rig.

IMHO: If you're using low synth / octavey stuff you should build a fEarB if you're going lower than low A or so, and a fEarful if you're not.

There are no bass cabs on the market that will do a good job of putting out even the first harmonic of low A or lower at any volume without risking being damaged. The fEarful is flat to the first harmonic of low G0 or so, roughly and no worse than -3db by the fundamental of E1.

The other issue is that loud fundamentals under 100hz that can come with synthy stuff push a lot of air through ports and most conventional bass cabs are extremely underported.

Anyway, check out the fEarful thread Definitely the way to go for this.
