My master plan is to have the same amp used for both live and practice applications.
I've got the live situation covered (Uber Quad
GB 1288T-UQ ).
The ShuttleMax 12 provides 375 watts into 8 ohms.
In looking at the Genz Benz small cabinet options, it looks like only the
STL-210T is rated above that. That's 37 lbs.
I was also considering the
STL-12T [27 lbs] and the
NEOX-112T [36 lbs]
Two questions:
1) I suspect I'll probably be OK running 375 watts into either of the two 300 watt rated cabs. In practice I will
never be running anywhere near full power. Anyone doing this? I've read the
Amp FAQ, but I am new to digital switching power amps. Any different considerations?
2) Which of these cabs is better for 6-string? (Meaning the low B)
If all these are roughly equal, I'd lean towards the lightest smallest cab, but would definitely carry a few extra pounds for better sound or guaranteed compatibility.
I'm also leaning towards staying with Genz Benz. I know there's tons of other great cabinets out there, but I've had less than stellar results mixing vendor components in the past.
