That looks interesting. B50r an b200r as well. Seems like people are less thrilled with the current equivalent ba112?

I also tried the Ampeg micro and was uninspired by the sound. I ended up with a GK MB-200 into an Eden EX112 and love the sound I get both at low bedroom volumes and cranked up to small club levels. It is small, light, and very affordable.

I tried the ampeg micro vr and liked it but would prefer something slightly more hi fi, but still something with lots of juicy goodness. I'm tired of my Aguilar gs112s. They are great, I'm just ready for a change. Could get into something all tube. Mesa walkabout combo is interesting. Or maybe an old SWR baby blue? Ampeg B12?
Ampeg's coming out with a new imported all-tube B-15 pretty soon. And old B-12N's and SB-12's are quite awesome as well if you prefer something a little smaller. I have a Micro VR and really dig it, but those low-watt tube Ampegs are the shizz.

Looking forward to checking these out.

I've always had an eye on the SWR Super Readhead for small gigs/practice. I love the idea of easy, compact versatility with a big sound. Maybe someday.

Don't have one, but I'm kinda sorta thinking about getting one. The BA112 is my favorite of the BA series. The B-50R was almost twice as much as the BA112 so it's a bit unfair to compare the two directly, but in its price range, I think it's a very good performer.

One of my fav practice /recording rigs is my Bf Princeton Reverb. Mine is housed in a Fender Deluxe sized 1x12 cab with an old Altec 417. It is phenomenally toneful. Then unplug the internal speak and plug the output into a simple 1 x15.

My BF stared life as an SFPR by the way. Dn Butler sis the B job which as I understand it is 1 resistor and cap. That amp also has the bonus of sounding freakin' amazing with my archtop 6 stringer...

Line 6 combo. The one i had was 150 watts, one 12". forget the model. Great "bedroom" tone.

Cool ideas guys, keep em coming.

B12s are pretty expensive, and I don't love the idea of maintaining an old amp, but super tempting.

How about an AMP 260 or AMP 420?

Not terribly expensive, sound great and have a great eq for tone experiments.

Agreed with Jimmy, the BA112 is the best sounding of that entire series of combo amps. But, the older Rocket Bass amps were something special. A B50R, or B100R has special sauce, and really does a great job emulating an all tube amp.

I'd forgo this one. Years ago, I used my friend's 1965 B-12 a number of times. IMHO, it was too soft for use with a restrained drummer, even in a living room. It might fly in a bedroom, and you can mic anything in the studio, but I avoid amps that, for me, have no performance utility.

Get a Walkabout, or one of those disco'd Fender TV 115s. Check Ed friedland's review of the Fender: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A93b2V7ymf8

I run the 110 BBII combo amp on some gigs and home use. If found used its an amazing amp at usually a real bargain price. A Speaker upgrade (Eminence Deltalite 110) really takes it to a high level of performance. When found used they seem to linger at the $250-$350 price range. AMAZING amp for that price range.

I have a Walkabout Scout 12 combo as well and it sounds simply incredible however, it lacks some features, it's expensive, and IMHO needs a replacement quieter fan for home use.

EBS Session 60 AMP.

I'm amazed how great this 1x10 amp sounds.
Great with a 5-string to.
A very loud 60 watts. Great practice amp.

I usually don't get to do much practicing until wifey goes to sleep, so my practice rig consists of a computer, USB interface, and a nice pair of headphones. I've tried the Ampeg SVX plugins, which I liked, but now I mainly use my Sansamp RBI or SWR IOD direct into my interface.

I've heard lots of great things about the Mesa scout combos, but I recently played an Aguilar Tone Hammer 500 through some kind of Aguilar 112 and that sounded AMAZING! If I'd pick up a micro rig right now, it'd be that one.

Or an old B15...

I've been using a Genz Benz Focus 115 cab with a GK MB200 as my home practice setup. Sounds great and still very portable if I want to take it to small gigs or just jamming with friends.
