Best sounding Lightweight Cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
Im looking for a nice lightweight cab to go with my Mesa boogie head... around 300 watt cab..

As far as light weight and sound... is mark bass really the only option?

All other cabs are ridiculous heavy..

I'd like a cab under 40Ibs

The Genz Benz Neos are amazing. Both the 2x10 and 2x12 weigh in at around 50lbs, and they come with built in casters that make them super easy to move on your own. I can actually move my entire rig in one trip and have enough power to easily play in front of 200+ people. And it doesn't hurt that they sound absolutely fantastic

With the GK cabs, make sure you get an amp with a tube to get a little warmth out of them

Get a Bergantio Ae112 or AE210. Both sounded amazing with a Walkabout.

BTW, the Barefaced "Super Fifteen" speaker is only 9lbs over for a very powerful 215.

Heads don't handle power. If you don't know what ohms mean you should have read this before making any posts:

Watts have no bearing. What counts is displacement. To find out what displacement is all about visit the Barefaced Bass site.

A 300 watt Walkabout head is capable of MUCH more wattage, (peaks), and most cab ratings are thermal, meaning- figure HALF. So, by that logic, you want a lightweight cab that has an RMS rating of 600 watts, if you expect to be using *most* of what the Walkabout will provide. One great sounding solution, a Genz Benz Uber 212.

NEOX | GENZ BENZ
Two of those would be a better match for your Mesa Walkabout than just one - or the NEOX | GENZ BENZ but it’s 53lbs.

One or two Baer ML-112 cabinets.

37 lbs is what their website says.

What type of sound you're after, what type of music you play, and what type of volume your needs are all impact what might meet your needs.

I can tell you what not to get - Hartke Hydrive 112! I recently bought one of those in an effort to go lighter. Arrived with the vinyl peeling off the back and the speaker rattled. Got sent right back!

Most cab builders give them power ratings, if the cab is rated at 8ohm and 300W, that just indicates a generally safe situation if you match it up with an amp that can put out 300W or less into an 8ohm impedance cab.

If the amp has more power into that impedance, that just means the user should be more careful when using it.

If someone drives any amp into a cab and goes overboard by running the amp into clipping (if it is a solid state amp with no limiting) or runs the EQ inappropriately, you can still damage the cab.

Bottom line is listen to the cab while you're playing and don't push it beyond its limits -- most cabs will start to sound distressed or distorted when pushed too hard.

Others on here can give you a more complete answer, I'm not a techno-head and just tried to keep it simple.
