Mounting an 8 lb. 3015LF on 1/2" baffle. Never used hurricane nuts before.
Any suggestions? Size, type?

I use the 1/4x20 hurricane nuts in 1/2 " BB. They rock. or rather they don't - they pretty much just stay put unlike Tee nutz which basically suck... well actually they don't suck as much as they should. They tend to get loose after a few initial loading / unloading experiences and it's easy to knock them out and down into the cab with a little too much downward pressure...

Most nuts have a fillet where the "shaft" meets the "plate" portion of the nut. It helps to lightly match that curve on the wood. If the hole in the wood has a sharp edge, the nut will not sit tightly.

By rounding the wood slightly, the nut will fit more snugly and won't want to rock.

Apply ONE DROP of Gorilla Glue where shaft meets plate, and that will help hold the nut too.

EDIT: Don't hammer the nut into place: Use the bolt to draw it in.

That's what Leland from speakerhardware uses to secure speakers. They are pretty awesome.

I've got some, I think. They resemble automotive screws I found at the hardware. I was thinking of something that didn't screw directly into the wood.
I don't have any particular reason other than I've always used T-nuts in the past. I'm trying to put my Carvin Ls1503 back in action with a 3015LF since I can't afford a fEarful build right now.
It had some rattling/buzzing issues a couple years back, so I'm just wanting to not have to go back into the cab more than once.

I've stopped using the hurricane nuts completely. I've had them spin loose on me one too many times and it is a nightmare to remove a driver once that nut has spun loose. Can't say I've ever had a standard T-nut spin on me. I'm using the tapered barrel T-nuts from McMaster-Carr. The prong layout works very well up against the driver opening.

You could just thru bolt it with aircraft acorn nuts, if you have access to the back of the driver. Or if the baffle was removable.

On stuff that gets disassembled and reassembled frequently, T nuts work great until they get pushed into the cab and spin. To prevent this, use a couple very small pan head wood screws to secure the t nut's flange.

Or, once the t nut is set, glue and staple a small piece of plywood over the back of the t nut. Drill a slightly oversize hole thru the plywood so your mounting screw can over extend if it needs to.

I use a c clamp to press t nuts into place, or draw them up with a bolt.

I bought t-nuts and bolts from home depot yesterday- they were zinc plated- unsure of the core metal but it was soft... very soft. the first 4 went in smooth and no problems (that was @ the top of the speaker/front board of the cabinet) and on the last 4 I stripped about 15 screws. Im unsure of why the board was so much denser @ the bottom (any thoughts on this???). Anyway after some frustration and lost time i went back to home depot and bout some stainless screws which worked fine- just wish i would have thought about it earlier.

I've used both T-nuts and hurricane nuts. I have had my share of them coming loose at the wrong time (even if they were glued). I just started using these threaded inserts and I like them alot. If one of them worked loose it would just unscrew out and you could replace it easily. The T/hurricane nuts being on the opposite side make it a nightmare to remove if they come loose and you can't get to the other side.
