I'm looking to buy my first proper amp, and I was just wondering what the best value all-tube amp that people have seen?

Ampeg V4
Music Man HD130
Traynor YBA3
Sound City 120
Sunn 200S
Traynor YBA-1A
Ampeg B25B

Seen all of these go between $300 and $600 which makes them a great value as they all sound great depending on how much power and volume you need.

I used to own a Traynor YBA-1. Not great if you need headroom but man, did that thing wail for guitar. I regret selling it and will be looking for another in the future. Would love to run one in stereo with my VT-22.

I'll put in my vote for the Ampeg V4, I love mine! Cheap route to the Ampeg tone. I actually like the tone of my current V4 over my last Ampeg SVT II non pro (I think it was due to its tubes though)...

Would also suggest an old Fender Bassman if you dont need alot of watts.

I have the Musicman 150HD tube hybrid and it's a great amp made for both guitar and bass. It has a SS preamp and a killer tube power amp section that goes from fender clean to marshall scream on the guitar channel and bassman type tones on the bass channel. You can get the head for about $250 used in good condition.
But of the ones listed above the Peavey V2B or Ampeg V4 would be at the top of my list for a bass only application. I like the Peavey for active basses with humbuckers and the Ampeg for passive basses with single coils.

most (including myself) don't consider the HD130 an 'all-tube' amp since it has a SS (op amp) front end, but rather, still a hybrid. IMO, they sound really good (i have one), and they do sound more like an all tube amp than most hybrids because of their tube output section as opposed to all the other hybrids having it the other way around (tube front end/SS output).

IMO, the best value in a 100% tube head is a used V4B or a used Traynor YBA-200-2.

I'm going to have to say the SVT-CL. You can get other ones cheaper, but 300w for $1600 new is still a darn good price. Plus you can find used ones for a song when couples split up and she just wants it out of the house

+1 on Traynor YBA-200, YBA-3 and Ampeg V4B. It saddens me that I have to part with my V4B this weekend.

Used: ditto on the YBA-200, VB2, and Ampeg V4/V4B

Might wanna save up and wait for Fender's new Super Bassman heads early next year?

Agree on the CL, even in Norway. They actually the best value all tube amp as new as well, sound1 sells them with the 8x10 cab for a very competitive price compares to other all tube rigs. Same goes for the Marshall VBA 400.
