Best way to connect 3 Bag End S15s

Sign in to disble this ad
I have a 2 ohm capable amp that I'd like to try to run with 3 Bag End S15's (8 ohms each= 2.67 ohms), but I am not sure of the best way to connect them-

The amp has 2 Speakon outs, and I have 2 cables that are Speakon to 1/4 inch, so I understand connecting 2 Bag End S15s for a 4 ohm load-

a: Output 1 to Speaker 1, Speaker 1 to Speaker 2 via 1/4 speaker cable

b: Output 1 to Speaker 1, Output 2 to Speaker2 with Speakon to 1/4 speaker cable.

but for a 2.67 ohm load, I'm not sure if there is a preferred way to connect-

Have any of you done this before?

The speaker outputs on the back of the amp are normally wired in parallel; you could use both outputs with one driving two daisy-chained cabs or run from one output and daisy-chain all the cabs together.

Either way will give the 2.67 Ohm load. Should sound great!

I wish more amps did 2 Ohms...

In theory, it's better to run separate cables from the amp, to reduce the current through the one cable. (so two cabs jumped on one cable, the other cab on the other cable)

In reality, it won't matter at all.

zactly

I have run four BE cabs (two S15s and two S12s) - (although it doesn't matter what the brand is as long as they are all 8 ohms) out of a 2 ohm stable amp by plugging into one cab, and then using the various parallel inputs to connect them in a chain. In fact, I think I've done this 2,367 times.

Thanks guys- I hope to try it out this weekend. It will probably be overkill, or maybe not, since I don't have a very high powered 2 ohm capable head (AI Clarus I).

i dont think it will be overkill. all 3 stacked will put the speaker closer to your ear and everything will sound clearer to you.

I own two, and I bought a third for a bar here, so I had three at one time. With my Eden WT-550 the triple stack sounded majestic. The extra bass rounded out the tone without losing any of the gorgeous detailed mids these cabs are famous for.

I used to run four and it worked fine either way you have listed. Mostly I ran 2x2, but in order to spread out more across the stage I have run four in series and it was fine. (all thru a walkabout)
