I wonder sometimes just how much paper cone you can glue around a coil before it gets floppy/gets ripples/waves in it and doesn't act like a piston anymore.
I understand the mids and highs ripple off the cone but I thought real bass came from a piston effect. |

I'm sure someone who gigs a 112 combo with a 4lb. amp in it will come along to tell you how impractical it is. |

We have 10's that go down to our lowest audible frequencies. They sound punchy when they do it too. 12's are great too. 15's are less punchy but give you that kick in the chest.
Most bassists don't even use 18's because of their floppy sound and their tendency to fold without serious compression that many of us don't want on our bass signal.
I think that would be a huge waste of money unless it's only ever going to see prerecorded music that has already been cleaned of pretty much all dynamics. |

It would be kind of fun to watch the lights dim every time I dug in on the low B...

Pretty poor choice for bass, if you ask me, but some folks dig low F#'s, low C#'s, etc... |

One 21" plus one 10" plus one 6" and a tweeter.
That would be one heck of a full range cab. |

For me, I'll stick with my 18" |

Looks to me like he knows what he's talking about. |

Billy was using four cabs with an EV 30" speaker in each. No definition at all, but lots of bottom. And very manly. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
