BF Bassman meets Rumble
Could use some advice before I do damage.
I restored a 65 BF Bassman with new tubes caps, etc and matched it with a 67 BF Bandmaster cabinet, with 2x12 Eminence Basslites. FOllowing old TB advice about using a Bassman for bass, I tightened the cab and filled with a good amount of polyfill foam.
I love the clarity and the tone but it's just lacking bottom end and deep bass. THe head seems better (deeper tones) with a different cab but don't want to have to buy another 4ohm cab. Plus I love the look together.
THen I tried this. Running the line out from a Fender 75 (watt)rumble, which has a decent equalizer and deep bass, into the bass channel of the Bassman. Sound is much improved, deeper, louder and much more range of tones from the RUmble. Just did it for a few minutes but the difference was distinct.
1. First off, Am I at risk of doing any damage to the Bassman.
2. Am I getting the benefit of the Bassman tube tone with this set up?
3. Or is there a better way to get the deeper tones out of the Bassman alone or with some other set up.
SOrry for the long post, but I won't run this set up again until I get some informed opinions.
I did that all the time in the 80's and 90's. Line out-post from my Peavey TNT150 into my '65 Bassman head and whatever cabs I was using at the time for some extra balls. I really liked it!
Thanks, That's good to know. And I guess you didn't encounter any damage to the Bassman?
SO you ran 150 watts into Bassman? Any wattage limit, do you think. I have a 180 Polytone that I could try it with, but it won't have all the EQ options of the Rumble.
Never plug the speaker output of ANY amp into the INPUT of another! You'll end up destroying both amps!
Edit: A line out is NOT a speaker out it's a signal larger than an instrument but way, way less than a speaker level.
I had a SF Bassman and currently own a BF Showman. I've found that using a pedal with some more eq than you have on your Bassman is a good way to go. A booster pedal helps, too.
Are there single pedals out there that will do both, EQ and boost. ANy suggestions.?
something like this:
Thanks man, I will check this and a few others out.
you're welcome ;) That's not the only one out there but it's the first I thought of having used it in the past. Not a bad pedal for the price.
Any other thoughts? Just want to be sure line out to second amp is safe. SOunds like it is.
Line out, not speaker out.
