BH500 and 2 omhs..

Sign in to disble this ad
I will buy new amp and I was thinking about BH500 with 3 cabs: BC210 + BC212 + BC410 ... This cabs together have 2 ohms. In BH500 manual it says I can have 2ohm load, but everywhere else people say BH500 can't run 2ohms ..so what is true?

I think it's only for TC cabs but maybe you'd better ask to TC directly.

+1, and also, you might reconsider wanting those 3 particular cabs, especially if you plan to run them all together.

I asked TC team and they said that bh500 is 2 ohm stable. But they are afraid of someone blowing it up with some cheap cab that have false information

First read up on the disadvantages of mixing cab sizes.

Two 410s or even two 212s would probably be better than the combination of those three.

i found mixing speaker sizes does kill the low end. when i say low end, i mean what you feel, not what your ears hear. even with a 250hz crossover @ 18 db oct, the 8x10 cabs messed with the low end from my 18's. i was shocked. so i just use the 18's. it would be worse if they were ported but they are all sealed cabs. i will suggest the same size speakers. ive heard the difference.

That combination will just lead you into trouble. The 4x10 will over power the other two cabinets. Rickenboogie is right on the mark.

Matching cabinets is always the best route.

The only resources you need are right here on this forum.

Plenty of info from cab building pros and audio engineers.

on another note, i have had amps that when you run them at minimum impedance, they sound strained, like they have less headroom, and get really hot. if the nominal impedance is 2 ohms, there must be a dip in the impedance plot somewhere that goes below 2 ohms. if the company tells you its ok, go for it. maybe its built tougher than my solid state ampeg pro 4's.

hmm ..all this informations are really interesting i'd love to try few things, but the problem is that i can't go to any music shops because live in a middle of nowhere xS also this is my first rig so can you give me any more advices?

and btw, i don't think 410 would overpower other cabs since it's 500w @ 4ohms and other two cabs are 250w @ 8ohms

Precisely! Cab ratings are almost meaningless. Most are the thermal limits of the drivers. In the real world they can actually use about half of that rating.

If you want solid advice, and a rig that will last you for years to come, and sound good doing it, then choose an amp, and get 2 matched cabs. 2 exactly the same. Use one for small shows, add the 2nd for big shows. Done, and done.

I've asked TCE about running my BH as 2 Ohms with several cab configurations, I was thinking about. There are other possibilities than using TCE cabinets and your BH500. Be specific and ask. The head is well protected and shuts down before it blows.
