An m25 might hypothetically replace my crazy8 for tiny gigs, yet supplement an m45 enough to carry larger and/or electric gigs? Oh lawd! Interesting.

By itself--4 ohms. But when you switch to 16 ohms you can combine it with a 4x6 and all speakers see the same load. The overall impedence is then 5.3 ohms which is a nice load for the amp. The speakers will see just slightly less power than at 4 ohms, but a lot more than an 8 ohm load.
The 4 x 5 is great for electric. About the same volume level as an 88. Actually more.
The 88 is about 300cc's as far as cone area x excursion. The 4 x 5 is the equivalent of about 400 cc's.
The 4 x 6 is about 750 cc's
a super 12 (3012lf based) is about 496.
a super 15 (3015lf based) is about 850.
A typical 410 is about 600.
I'm building an 8 x 5 for myself for electric. The horsepower/weight ratio is better with the 6.5 based cabs and they do go a tad lower.

For now. Until my tax return comes in.
edit: that is pretty incredible though, to nearly double the cc's with speakers only slightly bigger.
edit again: makes me wonder about a different measuring system for bass cabs, based off pressure instead of dB. PSI or some other pressure or wave dynamic measurement that speaks to the physical impact of the moving air instead of the aural perception of moving air, i.e. flapping pant legs. This speaker is rated at 12 fpl's or 24 POS per hour (panties on stage).

That's the nice thing about the OEM drivers. We can get more excursion. The excursion on the 8's is insane. |

No biggie... we are moving to the Elementary School gym, appx 1/4 mile North of the High School on "C" Street.
Gym is behind the Elementary school.
This may be a good thing. Although the gym is slightly smaller, there is a stage there.
Everything else is as planned.

I didn't take him away from production too long, but Mike took time out of his busy day to talk a little bass, politics, religion, and philosophy with me. Again, it was a pleasure, Mike.

We are offering a new version of the 46
The voicing is very different than the current 46---I'll be offering both.
The new one is 26 x 15 1/2 x 13. Weight about the same.
The original 46 has a very warm voicing in the bass. But for some it can be a bit thick in the mid to upper bass. We manipulated the vortex a bit and the new 46 extends a bit lower (like that was really necessary) but the bass is very flat through the mid and upper bass. For the highs, I switched to 2 Ciare tweeters crossfiring.More dough for me.It has a bit of a rising response above 8khz---just adds a bit of "air" and definition. I REALLY like the highs with the Ciare. I think that Meyer Sound is using it in some of their high end boxes.
So the old one is better for a more traditional 60's and 70's type of warmth. The new one is warm but more modern and detailed. And flatter. |
