From a bigger to smaller footprint...it's all good

Having taken up bass just over 2 years ago I've done my share of buying what I thought were great deals and getting good gear. My SX basses and rig served me well insofar as keeping me going with learning and jamming with a few people. But the times I had to carry all that gear out of the house was quickly becoming a chore.

And having tasted finer (and much lighter) fare and getting some great opportunities to aquire them recently, I'm happy to say going from my previous bigger, nice sounding rig to a smaller and also nice sounding rig feels good.

And now my lower back thanks me....and I can stop looking and just learn more and play more...

From this...

To this...

Congrats on the rig. Once you decide to go smaller/lighter it's only a short hop to your first prostate exam, so enjoy this time.

Enjoy those Wizzy 12s; they are superb cabs! Your ears will dig 'em even more than your back!

For those of us getting up there in years the new great sounding, lightweight gear is fantastic. PA gear is going the same way, and it's nice not to have to lug around 100lb+ speaker cabs anymore.

I played thru an Ampeg a few months ago, the tone was unreal. But I'm not in a spot where I could use or move that gear around. What I have now fills my needs well and is portable.

Yea they sound great, but if you're not touring (and tossing your gear in a trailer every night as opposed to loading it in a car) it just isn't worth the trouble IMO

+1 I'm 28 and went from 140lb rig to a 41lb (Shuttle and Neox 112t) There were a few steps of downsizing but the sound has got better with every step.
Lightweight rig doesn't necessarily mean old/injured it can also mean young & lazy

Yes, it can. Which is why i am going to buy a Micro Head and 210 Cabinet. I cannot be bothered with going through getting all the big stuff because i know i will get rid of it a few years later as i can't move it.
