Black Widow

I want to buy this 15" Bagend cab I found used. The owner says the speaker was replaced with a 600 watt Black Widow driver. Is that good? I haven't heard it yet but dont want to waste a trip to where its located. Does it defeat the whole purpose of owning a Bagend if the speaker was replaced with this Black Widow thing or is this considered an upgrade?

I wouldn't consider it an upgrade. The Black Widow works best in a cabinet tuned to suit it. The Bag End works best with the Bag End speaker. It's tuned for that speaker. There might be other speakers now available of the neo type that would work well in the Bag End but you'll need to get all the parameters you need and check out how each will perform.

There have been a number of people who have replaced a blown Bag End with something else. They often say it sounds as good or better. I wouldn't believe it unless I heard it myself. That Bag End isn't as good as many of the new designs on the market but it's pretty good for a small cabinet if you don't require a lot of bass.

If you're looking to save money and still get high performance, the Avatar neo line is good for that. Their prices are low because you're buying direct and not paying for expensive advertising or artist endorsements.

Seller claims it was "quad-ported". Whats that mean? Was that something that had to be done after the new Black Widow was installed? Why?

A Black Widow would sound fine in that cabinet. It's as good as a Bag End (OEM Eminence probably) speaker, just a different flavor. ...depends on the price.
