Blown Horn

I blew my Horn in my Ampeg 4/10 Classic cab. Is there a good replacement horn I could install that can handle my Big Muff Pi Bass fuzz?

nope. if you're running fuzz, turn the tweeter off. fuzz can be very hard on tweeters.

+1. It's the #2 reason why guitar amps don't use tweeters, #1 being that fuzz through tweeters sounds like ass. A 6" mid would be much better, if there's room for it.

Thanks for posting this! In one of the songs my band plays, I am forced to add "tube tone", quite excessively to match the sound of the original song. Tube tone is a feature on my RH450 amp. It gets quite distorted.
I am running a Berg AE410, which obviously has a tweeter as well as a TC 2x10 at rehearsals, again with a tweeter.
Should I be turning the tweeter off completely for this one song? How much damage could I do to either cab, should I not turn the tweeter off? We play at somewhat typical stage/rehearsal volume.
Again, thanks to all for their insight!

High distortion can result in high frequency power density up to ten times normal, which can toast not only tweeters but also LPads and crossovers. If you must run high distortion kill the high EQ on your amp to compensate. A really well engineered distortion pedal for bass would include a high slope low-pass filter that would do the same thing. I have no clue if something of that sort exists.

Thanks everyone for the insight, live and learn I guess. I found a web site where I can purchase a new horn, US Speaker parts. Is replacing a horn a simple job, or should I have a Pro do it?

unscrew and unplug the old one, plug in the new one, screw it in, done.

Don't forget to check to see if there is a fuse. The horn on my swr went out, and I thought it was blown. Lo and behold, it was the fuse.

good call. ampeg fuses their tweeters with a mini light bulb. chances are it will blow before the tweeter.
