Blueline SVT!

Sign in to disble this ad
I have the chance to buy a '70 or '71 blueline svt for $1000 from my tech. Is it a deal I should take up? I loved my V-4B and love my B-15, so I figured if I like them I'd dig the svt.

Yes, and then you should sell it to me, since you won't like it as much as your other two amps ... You lucky duck. Cheers.

Sound and tone wise, you can't go wrong with a vintage SVT for that price. A perfect tube amp compliment to a B-15.

My best advice would be, don't ask us, ask your back what it thinks.

Haha my 17 year old back thinks its fine I'm goin for it! The tech was already in the process of changing the 6146's to 6550's, but only has swapped 3 out. Should I stop him and ask to replace the 6550's with the 6146's again or should I let him continue? Same price either way

If it came with 6146's then it should stay that way, you will have a far superior amp and far more valuable, plus the fact the choice of Nos valves will be much more affordable.

I'll answer for JimmyM STAY WITH THE 6146's!

Absolutely stay with the 6146's! Have him change the other 3 back and don't let him talk you out of it! There are plenty of SVT's that use 6550's and most Blue Lines have already been changed over so there are very few left. Plus 6146B's are a lot less expensive than 6550's and available widely through NOS shops.

This might be the only TB thread i've ever seen where there's not 15 replies with 15 different answers to the OP's question. :P

Yep, stay with the 6146b. It's a no brainer.

If you ever want to hear what a blue line SVT sounds like through two fEARful cabs give me a shout. I've got '70 SVT with 6146s and I'm in your neighborhood.

Your right I think it could be the only one

Thanks everybody, I'm definitely pickin this guy (with 6146's ) up. Anybody got any cab suggestions? The obvious one here would be track down a 70's 8x10 (weight isn't an issue), but I feel like an 8x10 would be overkill for alot of the stuff I do.

You can run it quietly if need be...I do. Still sounds quite awesome and room filling. But any 4 ohm cab rig would work. Just remember that if you use two 8 ohm cabs that you have to daisy chain them into one speaker out because the early SVT's are old school and don't have a switch to tell it what load it is.

Stick with the 6146s for collector value for sure. The price gap between good NOS 6146s and new 6550s has almost disappeared lately. It's still pretty huge if you want NOS 6550s though.
