Book about Bass Amps

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello,
does anybody know a book about the history of bass amps?
Something like this one here: Amps!: The Other Half of Rock 'n' Roll von Ritchie Fliegler und Jon F. Eiche, just with the focus on bass amps.

Thanks.

ya, the history of bass amps pretty much begins and ends with ampeg. nobody made one before ampeg, and nobody did it as good as ampeg for a long time, at least until the 60's.

Huh? Therefore, in your humble opinion one should ignore all the others when writing a history? I know you really don't mean that, right?

I am resisting making a list...trying to at least....

who says they ignore all others? at the time there was really only fender and ampeg making bass amps, and fender never made amps as good for bass as ampeg. fender made bass amps as an afterthought and they sucked until the bassman, and the cab sucked on the bassman. ampeg was the only company out there who really took designing bass amps seriously for a long time. everett hull came up with the first pickup for upright and marketed the first amp made especially for bass in 1948. so it's not ignoring other brands...it's historical fact.

Hello,
yes I already know the Ampeg book, forget to mention this.
The book and the amps are really good and I think that Ampeg were really the first who took bass amplification to another level.
But later on their were many others: Sunn, Acoustic, ...
So any idea if there is a book which covers their story, too?

unfortunately, the love that guitar amps get in books just isn't shared by bass. i know of nothing that covers the post b-15 era for any other brands.

That'd be the problem. You'd have a hard time putting together a book proposal that would convince anyone to front you any cash.

Um......Sunn? Kustom? Marshall? All of those companies were building Bass amps before Ampeg came to dominate the market with the SVT. Ampeg had the B15 before others, yes, but until the SVT, those other companies were the ones providing the "big" systems.

Maybe that post was intended as sarcasm, in which case, sorry as coming off as snippy.

not to mention Vox, Selmer, Versatone/PanoFlex(first bi-amp rig?), Gibson, Guild, Randall, Mesa, Acoustic, Traynor ...... heck even Carvin made bass amps as far back as 1961.

geez Jimmy

Standel too.

And....

Nobody forget....

MAGNATONE.

Talk about an innovative company... they just happened to be overpriced and underpowered.
