Boost for my amp help
Well, kind of . I'm happy with the sound of my main amp ( Eden E300T ) and my back up ( Eden WT550 ) I'd like to get some clean boost at lower volumes to fill out the sound better. I have narrowed it down to two Boost/DI units and would like to hear from people who have them. I'd like to hear the pro's and cons.
As far as type of music I play, I play mostly rock, not by choice but rather what ever I get a call for, I will play. So mostly rock, country, alt. rock ( 90's thru now ) , blues, and depending on the players, funk.
Basses: Stock AMSpec. Jazz, and Stock RDWRN PBass
Cabs: 215 Fender Bassman ( made for the 300pro) and eden 210 ( great lil cab!)
I just spent a few hours at my local shop and came up with these two:
Eden WTDI. The only con I see with this unit is that it does not have overdrive ( there are times when I play with certain people I need some dirt on my sound.
Pro's- very flexible EQ that I am totally familiar with, is a DI ( where the e300 has a poor line out, un balanced and no way to adjust the signal). Small, comes with a power supply, and I can prolly Velcro it to my amp in a convenient location, and it is not very expensive.
SansAmp PBDR programmable bass driver.
Pro's. has great tone and it has the grit I want. Has three programmable banks, that can be used for different sets/songs/basses.
Cons's, limited EQ settings. Nowhere near as comprehensive as the WTDI. Only has Bass/Treble for tones. Does not come with a power supply chord, must be purchased separately.
What I liked about the sansamp was that it sounded huge when set on the verge of break up and it opened up the amp I was testing it on at a lower volume. I did have a harder time dialing in the sound though.
The WTDI made a major difference in the amp as well and I was able to basically get any tone I wanted at the same time boosting the amp at a low volume, giving me the " crack" I wanted. When I say "crack" I mean the spot in an amp where the volume opens up and the true sound of it is coming out ( I hope that that description makes sense!) .
Anyway, any help or opinions on the Eden and the Sansamp would be greatly appreciated. Ohh.. And one other thing, I'd like to hear how Fdecs pre compares to these other units and if has the features.
Thanks in advance. Really.
