Ever hear how good the bass sounds on those little Bose Wave radios? Why cant they make a bass amp and cab that size and weight to sound like that? Just sayin...

Euphonic Audio (EA) uses a similar design in many of their cabs (transmission line design). Given the complexity of building those boxes, I don't really hear that much advantage over a well tuned, standard box design with a woofer that has nice xmax and low end response (like the FearFul type cabs).

Music on cd's and the radio is highly compressed.

Plus psychoacoustic processing, like an Aphex Xciter with Big bottom, adds perceived bass.

I don't see what people like about Bose. I really don't like their speakers. Go to a nice hi-fi shop rather than you big box stores and compare there. They suck.

I believe he is talking about the general idea of using a transmission line design (which is what I believe is in the inside of the Wave radio... they sound quite impressive to me, personally, if overpriced) in a bass cab, to get a relatively big low end out of a small box. He is not talking about Bose per se, if I'm understanding his post.

The transmission line (from my non technical background) does lower the impedance of the box at low frequencies compared to other boxes (according to EA anyway), and can result in a more even, deeper voicing of a small box.

However, things have come a long way in the last 10 years regarding high powered, lightweight, high xmax drivers (like the Eminence Neo 3012LF's, etc.) that result in amazing low end performance with a simple, straightforward port design. IMO!

IMO Bose is great for warmth, but horrible for punch.

i've installed many a Bose system in my days at Muzak, and the only thing that really impressed me was the wave radio and the tri-port headphones, but sadly the build quality was crap on those.... They were held together by zip ties within a month... We have a nice accronym around the shop.... Better order something else. Hehe

I'll stick with my NHT's :-)

It's too small for musical-instrument use. Look up Hoffman's Iron Law. You can have small, loud, or efficient. Only two at once, not all three.

Also, they don't have to get lower than the second-harmonic for bass; the ear fills in the rest.

+1 I misread the original post and didn't realize he was talking about something that small.

Bose sub cabinets for "Pro" use.
They're bandpass cabinets last I looked.
