Sign in to disble this ad
well, thanks to reading posts from jimmym and others, i decided to try a 7 pro. i used it last night in my 80's hair band with my alien alliance 4x10. (Home | Alien Alliance Audio Systems). my god, this is a loud amp! it really does get close, scary close, to the tube svt sound. thick, warm, punchy, and that sweet tone that i have come to love about ampeg. i hope that this head is reliable. anybody know if they have had any major probs with these? anyways just wanted to share. its good to be back with ampeg!!

Glad you're enjoying it! As far as I know, the problems were limited to the very first run and were fixed. Having said that, all amps can break, but Ampeg's really good with CS, so if something does happen, they stand behind their warranty.

When I was looking in the manual I didn't find how they warranty in the U.S. Is it one year? Or more?

UPDATE: I searched on the Ampeg site:
MI Amps and Cabinets: SVT Classic and Pro and SVT Pro: 5-year electronics, 2-year speakers, nontransferable

the CS is something that i have been real impressed about ampeg lately. i have no doubts they will take care of me if i need it. i hope this one isn't a "first" run. i did buy it new, but i don't know how long it was in the store. they didn't have the rack ears for it so they are going to call ampeg and see if they will send me some.

There should be a revision number on it to let you know.

Well mine says rev c & it's been faultless so far, I've only had it 6 weeks probly. Love it tho!
Some have reported rev c 'issues' but as Jimmy said, all models are gonna have breakdowns & more so in their 1stly days.
But afaik, Ampeg have ironed out a few issues with the 'rev c' series.
I hope so, as I bought mine from the USA to Aus.

All this SVT 7 talk is NOT helping my GAS. I have a RH750 now that I love. It's a nice little 236 watt amp. I also have a '73 SVT that doesn't go out of the house. It'd be cool if the SVT7 can get close to that thump.

Anyone have any good deals on the online?

Dude, air out that SVT once in a while. It thrives on performing.

I got mine from a Canadian Ebay seller w/ 100% feedback 'geargottogo' , was great seller & amp got to me in Aus within a week.

I've had mine about a year now. Love it. Use it w/ ampeg 4x10 classic. Play rock / blues w/ Warwick Corvette and use the same rig w/ my DB. I Gig b/ 1 and 4 times a month ... And I fire it up at home (fairly loud) for practice on average at least 10 hours a week. So it gets a lot of use and never had any issues.

I do not have a revision number though. What "issues" s/ I be watching for?

As jimmy said, the problems were limited to the first ones that came out.. unfortunately I was one of those people to encounter this problem, and loud technologies is decent with customer service. Yes they stand by there warranty, but my svt 7 pro has been in the shop for the last couple of months waiting for ampeg to get new main boards in stock for the power amps of the svt 7. Apparently the problem is with the main board, as my repair tech said that he has replaced five other main boards on svt 7's. So i'd give it about a week and if your amp doesn't stop giving output to your speakers at all then you probably don't have a faulty model. Besides that it's an awesome amp, can't wait to get mine back.

I love my SVT 7 Pro that I run through my 410HLF and i currently miss it dearly. I didn't move it into my apartment because I didn't have room at the time so its been sitting un-played in my parents basement. Since I'm bandless at the moment I suppose I don't really need it. My GK MB 210 combo is far easier to lug around town for impromptu jam sessions and stuff. But I still miss my ampeg.
