Boutique amp brands: Looking for a "Classic" vibe

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm thinking about customizing my rig. The thing is, I don't even have it yet, and I probably won't have the money to customize it for a while after I buy it. I'm talking cosmetic customization, different covering mostly, maybe a different grille cloth. And again, I don't really have the money for it right now, but you know how it is, the most fun part is planning.

So I'm looking for names of brands that I could draw inspiration from, look for touches that I like. I don't like the "modern" industrial design of GK and the like so much, I like the old school style of Ampeg and old Acoustic amps. I also Want to look at boutique amps, because they're less well known, and I like that sort of look as well. So any names of brands I could look at, particularly little-known boutique brands, because I know most of the main brands.

I'm just sort of looking at stuff I might like the look of, so I could sort of imitate what I like when I finally get around to customizing my stuff.

Any suggestions?

Those look really neat, thanks!

I also like that Wine red covering on the fEARful amps, as seen here.

Anyone know where I could find that?

Also, How would I go about putting covering on the Cab? It already has a covering, or something, would I just put it on ever it, or what? It's an Acoustic B410.

Dr Z uses interesting speaker cloth. Google them and see if it floats your boat. Guitar only, but cloth is cloth.

I can't remember their supplier but it comes up from time to time on the Z boards and elsewhere, so you can find it if you like it.

We got it from mojotone.com. Mojotone Wine Taurus (Buggy Whip) Tolex / 54'' W - Mojotone.com

You'll want to pull off the old covering and wrap it fresh. I've built and covered hundreds of speaker enclosures, and I much prefer to take them to a good pro upholstery shop when I can. For me, it is worth the money spent on labor to get a good product in the end. A good shop should be able to do a bass cab for $100-$200. Keyword being good, I've dealt with a lot of less than good shops out there.
