Bracing a Peavey TNT 115

Sign in to disble this ad
So, I'm having resonance issues with my amp, I posted a thread about this two summers ago and was told to brace it. I used 2 1x2 strips per side, but it didn't really help. Three of the braces are not completely perpendicular to the baffle and back of the cab, could that have caused them to not work?

Basically, how should I go about bracing it now.

Also, any ideas of what to line the box with, it has some wimpy little cotton in there right now.

Sure it's not a speaker problem. Or in the amp part itself? Get local smart person to help you.

The right way, panel to panel. Strips don't do diddly.

No, in that old thread I documented my search for the noise, isolating various things, it is the enclosure. I am the local smart person,

I must have misunderstood the poster in the other thread, thanks.

Not necessarily, using strips applied to panel faces is a commonly used technique. It doesn't work very well, but it is common.

I can't comment on the diameter, but I'm guessing glue to secure them.

Also, would pieces of 1x2 work? I'm assuming it should.

You could use even 1/2" dowels. 1x2 is OK, but you won't get any better result for the extra weight. The effectiveness depends on the spacing between the braces, not their dimension.

How would I go about laying out the braces? I'm thinking three from baffle to back in the corners that don't have the tweeter, and four side to side. Do they need to be arranged in odd distances to stop standing waves?
