Very excited about this. My main gig is playing upright slap style bass in a band called 'Th' Legendary Shack*Shakers'. Also Play upright in a string band (no drums) called 'The Dirt Daubers,' as well as bass guitar for Joshua Black Wilkins and sessions etc., here in Nashville. Just signed on with Genz Benz a few days ago. Pretty stoked.

Since they have so much cool stuff, I wasn't sure which pieces to choose. On Jeff Genzler's recommendation, I ordered;

SM 12.0- very hi-fi, light and dual voltage so I can take it with me to Europe, fly dates, etc. If it turns out not to have quite enough 'snarl' I'll switch to a GBE 1200 instead. My main band is super loud.

For cabs I'm going with a Uber 410 and Uber 212...my understanding was that's the most full range sounding stack. My instinct would be to use two 410's, but I'm open to change if it's a good one.

I'm really curious about the 1288 cabs for more detail, but Jeff wasn't sure it would have enough girth compared to the rig I've been running. Still really want to hear one! My touring rig for the past few years has been a Fender TB1200 amp with 2 Fender 810 Pro cabs...don't usually need two 810's but I love the air and headroom...looks cool too, but I'd trade some of that for the added detail the GB stuff provides. Should be shipped out next week...seriously can't wait!

Welcome...
GB is just incredible as a company and I LOVE their gear!
One band i play with is Super LOUD too... The GBE1200 handles it as well as the ShuttleMAX12 now a days when using more than one 4 ohm cab..

Otherwise my main Fly amp was the Shuttle 9 but have been using the Streamliner 900..
But as far as Double bass goes you may be best served with the Shuttle max 12 or new 9.2. .That way you have plenty of EQ options for your bass.

The 1288s are very even sounding... and work great for a stage monitor for me..
Your 212 and 410 would most likely be more girthy as Jeff suggested... not saying the 1288 is not.. but it s just more hifi with a more vocal response than a sledgehammer response of the 410 or 212.. I still need to get a 212 from them one day....

mixing cabs can be a crapshoot with possible phasing and volume imbalance problems, so i would probably go 410/410 or 212/212. it's very possible they could sound good together, though...gb makes great stuff and uses speakers that are alike enough to probably keep that kind of thing in mixed rigs to a minimum, but i like a sure thing, and matching cabs always work together well.

btw, you guys are indeed legendary, if www.doublebasschat.com is any indication

Agreed, randomly mixing cabs is more often than not a crapshoot but Genz Benz seems to have designed the Uber 410/212 to play well together. I have this stack with the SM 12.0 and can vouch for this. I usually play them separately because I usually just don't need that much artillery, but even though their frequency coverage is a bit different, their sensitivity and voicing is well matched and they complement each other nicely. I don't think it's just a volume effect because I don't hear the peaks, valleys, and smear from phase mismatch I've heard before. The 212 seems to support the 410 nicely by providing a beefier low/low-mid foundation while remaining articulate. The punch, focus, and flexible eq of the Shuttle Max works very nicely with the Uber cabs. I've found it to be a top notch rig which can cover a number of styles well.

I thought I saw a picture of you using two 1288's somewhere...this could be total overkill, but I had pondered using a 4ohm Uber212 then an 8ohm 1288 and an 8 ohm410, or something like that!

Getting upright to sound good AND loud is kinda tough.

I haven't played upright in 30 years....
So i say i have ZERO experience with the beast and i really give kudos to a person that can handle one..
You have a nice rig there that will take a beatin and keep tickin'.

Yes those 1288s are really nice.. overkill .. mmmm not with the folks i play with.. Four would be nice . not so much for volume but just have a buffer zone between me and the other instruments and surround myself with bass.... hhaa

Welcome to the club! Great company, and Jeff is incredibly helpful when it comes to choosing gear. Not many companies you can call and get the owner on the phone.

That's a fact...I was kinda shocked the first time Jeff called me. So do you guys think that is the best rig for me to start on with GB? 12.0, Uber 212 and Uber410?

I have the uber 410 and uber 212 and dude let me tell ya....awesome! I let one of my friends borrow this rig with my shuttle max 12.0 three weeks ago and he was so impressed that he bought the exact same setup last week. Every time I play out I get mucho compliments about this rig. It's actually hard to get a break in between sets because fellow bassist want to know about Genz Benz stuff. I also had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Genzler in Raleigh NC about three weeks ago. I drove 4 hours just to tell him how much I liked his stuff. Congrats on your deal with GB and I bet you are going to love the uber cabs. Viva La Genz Benz!!!!

Wow...thanks Possum! That makes me even more excited to get my rig! It gets shipped to Nashville around Wednesday...not sure how long it'll take to get here...my only real experience with GB is I recently picked up a used XB2 410 cab, 8 ohms...use it locally with my Fender TB 1200 for electric bass gigs...the other players seem to love it as a sub for my 810Pro cab...all the other smaller cabs I've had just sound too...well, small

Congrats! I've got 2 Uber 410's and love them! I don't play double bass, I can barely play electric bass, but man I love them...

Just checked out some videos and man does it look like you guys put on a show!

Depends on what you're going for. Can't go wrong with the 12.0. Personally I don't like mixing driver sizes, and I'm pretty find of 12's. I use a NeoX 212, and it moves a ton of air all by itself. If I recall correctly you guys are pretty loud, but with 2 cabs I can't see you having a problem with either one.

Thanks! It's a fun job for sure. Like I said, my instincts would have been to get two 410's, but I'm going with the majority vote...if it doesn't pan out, no big deal, I'll just swap them out. My original plan was to get a 4ohm 212 an 8ohm 410 and an 8ohm 1288, but that may be overkill...though I've been playing two 810's Actually, something I like about 810's is it's less trips to the trailer than a bunch of small cabs Gotta find a good deal on some cases soon as well.

We used to be stupid insane loud...these days we're just way too loud

I just don't have enough experience with 12" speakers on bass, but I'm stoked to try them. I have high hopes for the 12.0...just hoping I get enough snarl.

You know you cant go wrong with 2 410s....or the 410 and 212 combo.. But i am not a URB guy.... For electric i would get the two 410s ..
You may want to look up "hasbeen" on here.. his name is Roger.. He has a vast knowledge of players needs . I also think he plays URB.. not sure..
