Breaking up is hard to do

Strike the violins.

I'm wondering how many of my TB colleagues have found themselves in the same situation.

Due to GAS, band, vehicle, and money differences over the course of my bass career, I've come to the point where gear (especially amps/ cabs) that I don't/ shouldn't need has started to overcome my small house. Thus, I've been thinking about selling much of it off to buy a small couple of new things. During this course each piece has been brought out to check over.

One by one I've been remembering why I originally bought each of them and now find it really difficult to sell any of it. Agghhh!

Please, if you have ridiculous situations of the above, especially for amps, share your predicament. Pictures would help to ease my pain, especially large group photos.

Thanks.

As of the end of 2009, my only gigging band has disolved, (over personal differences between the lead guitarist and drummer). I tried to pick up the pieces, mostly the drummer, and carry on with other players. Fail. I'm at a point where gigging isn't my main focus anymore, and would prefer to just record and jam with some other friends, and older bandmates, (from a band I was in during the 80's)
This leaves me with a whole bunch of gigging gear, that I don't need. One old Boogie rig, which weighs somewhere around 250 lbs, and a nice modern lightweight rig, under 75 lbs. I don't need either one, but certainly not both- yet I can't let either one go.

I suppose it's better than the other way 'round, where the gigs are there, but you're short on good gear- so I'm not *really* complaining, but I feel your pain.

Move into an apartment. It'll accelerate the process

I don't have pictures, but I have almost every amp, bass, other instrument (guitars, banjo, recorders, clarinet, flute, etc.) and piece of equipment that I have ever owned over the course of 46 years of playing. The exceptions are my very first department store amp, which kept blowing speakers, and the cab to my 1969 Ampeg BT25 and a Sano bass which were both stolen while loaned to my brother (also a bass player). The curse of having an attic, cellar and barn! If I looked hard enough, I'm pretty sure I could find my Nehru jacket and my 8th grade history notes, but unfortunately not any pristene Micky Mantle rookie baseball cards ;>)

Cheer,
Dennis

I have a ton of stuff I should sell. Sometimes I get as far as researching the current used prices before deciding against it. Besides being attached to the stuff, the thought of getting 10 cents on the dollar compared to what I paid for it makes it tough - especially since I bought most of it used, at great prices! Combine that with the hassle of dealing with dishonest, insulting, angry lunatics who think I should be paying THEM, and it gets repurposed as home theater equipment, or furniture.

Not me. I'm all about trading in and trading up. So much so that I regret it sometimes.

I really miss a MIM jazz bass I sold off a few years ago, and a Gibson Explorer that I'd dropped Seymour Duncans in (Screamin' Demon and Pearly Gates) that I let go for way too little.
