bridging question

Sign in to disble this ad
I have 3 different power amps - Crown XLS1000, Crest CA6, QSC PLX1804 and I'm running a single 8 ohm cab off of it currently. I know the QSC can't be bridged, but I've been using mostly the Crown bridged at this point. My question is this.. If I add a 2nd 8 ohm cab to my rig, can I daisy chain off the other cab to create a 4 ohm load from the bridged power amp (1100 watts at 4 ohms bridged) or do I have to run it stereo? Can you run a multi cab set up from a single bridged amp, assuming the amp can handle a 4 ohm load bridged?

Yes, that would create a 4 ohm load if you daisy chain from cab to cab. You don't have to run in stereo.

Yep. Go ahead and bridge it. Parallel mono can be used if you have a lot of cabs.

Just make sure your amp is stable at 2Ω per channel stereo. Most are but it's something to make sure about.

Second point is don't bridge using 1/4" phone plugs. They are not safe to use with a bridged amp. Speakons are the only safe way.
