broken cab?

Sign in to disble this ad
My friend brought me over his SWR bass amp and cab for me to look at at, the head seems.to be working fine. But his cab, not so much. It's a 2x12. I noticed he had a guitar cable going to it, instead of a speaker, which I know is not good. I haven't had the chance to burp the speakers with a 9 volt, if would anyone else have any suggestions? It does have a crossover.

Thanks in advance

Doing the battery test and the pushcone scratch test will tell you what's up with the speakers. Using a shielded " guitar cord" as a speaker cable, while really dumb, usually produces heat and shorts that wil hopefully be stopped by the fuse at the speaker outs. If that didn't stop it, there's no telling.....

Hi.

^ what will33 said.

The cross-over is most likely for the tweeter only, so that shouldn't have any effect on the woofers performance.

To be on the safe side, do test the speakers separately as well before hunting for replacements though.

Sam
