Budget 110 or 112 recommendations?

Wow, it's been awhile since I've been back to these forums!

And it's actually been awhile since I've played bass...

I've been off at college and haven't been able to bring my 115 due to its size. I'm in the process of selling it, and am looking for a small 112 or 112 to replace it. Back when I was active on this forum Avatar was a popular company for bang/buck, but now they seem more expensive than I remember...

I'm running an EBMM SR5 > Boss GT6B (might sell this, too) > GK Backline 600 > ???

Is there anything decent, portable, and less than $200 and can handle 300W?

Used Aggie GS112s pop up once in a while for about $225 if you can break your budget by a few bucks. You're going to be closer to price point if you look at most 1X15 cabs. I'm pretty sure GK and Acoustic both offer 1X15 cabs for $199-ish. Also, the Peavey Headliner is a 2x10 that'll run $199.99 new. I know these options don't actually fit your question, but food for thought nonetheless.

I would think that new Hartke 1x12" would match well with that GK head of yours.

I have a SWR Workingman 12 that I adore. Great sound and pucnh, plenty of power, breat for smal to midsized rooms with a direct out to the board for bigger rooms. Mid $200's used. Great amp

Look for a used 112 with a traditional driver.

Good examples: Epifani T-112, Aguilar 112, Avatar 112. All are around 40 pounds, less than $300, have decent handles and work well with a five string. I've used all of them live, and could easily live with any of them for use in a practice / jamming rig.

call Don at LDS, he can do a 110 well built for cheap.

The new Eden EX112 can be had for $249 brand new, shipped, and sounds excellent. Small footprint.

Note: this is NOT the Eden 112XLT. That is a nasty sounding cab . . . the EX112 is very flat and smooth, but I wouldn't try it with a loud drumer without adding another one.

@dhomer - I think building might be beyond my capacity at this point due to a lack of tools. Thanks for the offer, though!

@j-raj - I for sure will shoot Don a message and see what he has to offer.

@Eric Moesle - Do you have any experience with the EX110?

I have an EX 112, not the 110. I read on here somewhere where someone tried them both out in a store and said while the 110 sounded fine, it didn't sound as large or open as the 112 - which makes sense.

I am REALLY happy with the EX112 for small-duty work. Not just for the portability, but because it sounds so darned balanced and clear.

Yea, that makes sense.

$200 is the upper end of my budget right now due to some other non-bass related projects I have going on. If I can sell my GT6B, I'll be able to expand my budget a tad, which would be excellent.

I would bet you can find a used avatar 112 in the classifieds for 200. Maybe 250 including shipping. And that combo sounds great with GK, I've tried.

that's a great little spkr rig except the driver itself (Eminence S2010) is over 110 clams thanks to the big neo price spike recently

. Still, worth looking at because the total still would be w/in 200 or so. W/that GK head should be a winner

This was a cool deal before the neo speaker almost DOUBLED in price.
When 1st posted the speaker he used was $75. When I last looked 2-3 weeks ago the speaker was $140.00

The Avatar SB112, with the ceramic driver, handles 500w and is inexpensive. It only weighs 7 more pounds than the NEO and if you get the 4 ohm version, it will see the full 300w from that GK Backline head.

Hmmmm. Exactly what I was looking for. I'll have to email him. All I want is a tweeterless sealed 110 for bedroom playing. They don't seem to exist.

Used Line 6 Low Down Sound... still floors me for how it handles for it's small size.
