Budget Rigs for christmas

Sign in to disble this ad
I'm looking for a rig for christmas, somewhere in the price range of $400 - $650. I was looking at the Ampeg SVT-15e 1x15, any reviews on that? also other budget rig suggestions would help out a bunch. thanks!

EDIT: on a side note i'd really prefer tube, a nice Low end Regge with a burpy, punchy kind of tone.

Acoustic B200. Best amp for the money!! Search Google and read the reviews.

btw, if you want tube buy a SansAmp VT Bass pedal with the extra $ and you will have the best of both worlds!

Doesn't that compressor go for over 200? Better off spending that on the rig IMHO. You can always get a compressor later.

Crate BT350 bought mine used for 350 with a 4x10. It sounds amazing and its incredibly loud and I haven't had any problems with it, although I have heard that the one's with green lettering on the front have had several problems but the original BT350 is amazing for the price you can get it for nowadays.

Well heres the thing, one of my "Bass heroes" is Eric Wilson from Sublime and the thing that shapes his tone is that compressor so I mean if theres like a rig for 800 and it blows me away i'll take it but other than that i'd rather keep the compressor. and yes it goes for slightly over $200.

You asked for a budget rig for no more than $650. The B200 is $349 and the VT pedal is $149. You have $150 left over to go towards your compressor.

Here are a bunch of demos on the VT pedal:

+1 I read your explanation but I agree that you will get better results spending more more on your rig (I'd put all the extra into the cab).

I highly recommend buying used. The TB calssifieds are a great resource and you will get approximately twice the amp for your money.

$400-$600: Used GK Backline 600, Used Avatar 212 or 410.

$600-800: Many more options. Heads (used) -- GK 700RBII, Markbass LMII. Cabs (used) -- Avatar (212 or 410), Bag End S-15D (start with one and add another later), Aguilar GS212.

Also, you may consider shopping used for your compressor. Even if you buy new you can probably get more bang for your buck if you go with another model. See TBer Bongomania's compressor reviews. I picked up a new Carl Martin Classic Opto last year for just over $100 and I have been very pleased.

Good luck in your quest

For $650 you can do much better than an Acoustic B200 . . . if you buy used.

If you're going to steer somone to buy used, at least know what you're talking about!! You state prices that are WAY over the market values.

I feel I have a pretty fair idea of what I'm talking about. The figures stated are for a complete rig (head and cab, shipped), not for the individual components.

If you are going to criticize someone, at least READ the post in question thoroughly

+1 for PSPookie's GK Backline 600 and a good 4x10 or 2x12. But instead of spending $500-$600 for that used and mailed (ok heads aren't too expensive mailed), I just got a GK Backline 600 and Peavey TVX410 for $265 locally.

I know from experience the Peavey TVX410 is the loudest 410 I've ever heard live, but I didn't expect the grunt and sparkle I'm getting from the GK. I honestly have to cut almost all bass just to play the amp at 1 at home. It gets road-tested in SLC's most acoustically-dead club (100watt tube Marshalls & 1x15's "disappear") this Friday....
