I have some stuff lying around that I would like to try and utilize (some of it is old but works fine) Is there is a preferred order to putting it all together? Do I even have enough to put something together that will not mess up my cab? I am listing what I have to work with...
I own two power amps: Crown XLS 802 & QSC RMX 850 - I don't need both, so any preference? Bridged/Mono?
I have a SansAmp Bass Driver DI I wanted to use as my Preamp
DBX 266XL Compressor/Gate
Alesis Quadraverb - I like using some of the chorus, flange, etc...
SWR 4x10 cab 8ohms at 400w
Any advice would be greatly appreciated - I would hate to ruin any gear or blow my cab or ears if I set it up incorrectly...
Put the pieces that generate heat at the top and use fans or vented rack panels to let the heat escape. No point making the others hot when they don't need it.
Settings- if you have the manuals, read them and if you don't have them, go to the various websites and download them so you can read how to get the most from everything. Setting the levels is one of the most important- make sure that when you each device is active/off, the level doesn't change- you want unity gain. You do, however, want a hot signal going to the power amp, but make sure it's not too hot. As long as the various gain stages don't cause additional noise/distortion, you'll be able to use the input control(s) on the amp(s) to maintain the cleanest sound and lowest noise. This is described in the Crown and QSC manuals.
