Building a Cab, advice needed.

Sign in to disble this ad
So i am looking to put together a Frankenstein style bass cabinet, i am new to this but feel confident I could put it together, I have a few woofers i am hopefully looking to piece together to make some sort of full or half stack.

The pieces available are:

Punch XLC Rockford Fosgate "RFP2415" with 4 Ohms

The Speaker from a Fender Bassman 100 speaker (amp is busted but the speaker is good"

and for treble end i have a Celestion G12-65 8ohm from a Fender studio Pro.

Im not too sure in this case dealing with: balancing the impeadence, soldiering in parallel vs series, and how much space the cab would need to optimum performance and what type of head i would need to run this jalopy.

Any feed back would be greatly appreciated.
There is a few small treble tweeters and more 10 inches available to add into the mix.

welcome to TalkBass! If it's not going to cost you anything to build...go for it. Otherwise, you'd be better off buying a good used loudspeaker enclosure that has known performance and resale value.

Anyway, I suspect that the Rockford Fosgate is a car audio speaker which is probably very inefficient.

Good luck!

what is a Frankenstein style bass cabinet?

check out WinISD. Free software for enclosure design.

Just a word: the internal volume of a speaker cabinet is more often than not tailored for a specific speaker, and vice versa.

Depending on what you have in 'more 10 inches,' you might be best off on your first build figuring out a speaker you have more than one of and building a box for them. Find out which speakers you have that you can get T/S parameters for, then get WinISD and mess around a lot.

I am just guessing here but...

If you replicate the exact internal volume of what the combo was into your cab build and the exact same ports... it might work fine.

You might want to just use one driver to keep things simple for now. If it works to your satisfaction, you can always experiment further down the road.
