There's a lot of linked info in the FAQ sticky thread at the top of the 'Amps' forum. Link: AMPS FAQ!! Info on OHMS, Allsize RIGS-OverUnderPowerCabs DIY TechTalk-Links

Scroll down to the part with 'DIY' and 'fEarful' cab links.

For the woodworker and enthusiast, I say do it if you can. But you will probably not save any money (compared to getting a new avatar).

You aren't likely to build a better 4x10 any cheaper then you could buy one used. In fact, if you were looking to recreate something typical and normal, you are likely to spend far more to do less.
If looking to DIY to get somethign different then you can buy commercially or used, then see the post above abotu Fearfuls, or Check BillFitzMaurice.com.

If you want to try something that is a little more conventional and has been around a long time try a TL606. I am starting on a double. Do a search and you will find a lot of threads.

Here is a link to the plans.

It's not that it's cheaper in an absolute sense, but you can spend $x (and your invaluable time) and get a cab that if available commercially might cost 3-5x.

Leland at Speakerhardware.com is a good parts resource.

BFM cabs are discussed a little here and more at billfitzmaurice.info.

Honestly, a four pack of basslite S2010s and a decent design will blow away most cheap used 4x10s and won't cost that much to build. Figure cost of woofers + 100 bucks in parts, if you don't use a horn.

That said, Deltalite 2510's in Jack 10s are hard to beat too

the one caveat about homebuilt cabs is resale value takes a tremendous hit. however, i am noticing that with the bfm-fearful type cabs, they take less of a hit than usual as long as they're built as well as commercial cabs.

resale on home-built cabs is brutally low. The exceptions are very rare, and only for the very nicest construction, regardless of the design.

Even fearful/BFM and other well designed cabs have gone for essentially the cost of parts ( or less) on ebay/TB/CL.

IMO build because its something you want to do or to build something unique you cant find elsewhere.
