built myself a small cab cart

As you all know, non-neo cabs are heavy. My back doesn't particularly like this. I decided to use my welding skills and whip up a solution to the problem:

The most expensive part of the project (well, besides the $2000 welder) were the casters, which came in at about $16 with shipping from McMaster-Carr. There's probably $5 worth of 1" steel angle iron and some Rustoleum hammer-tone black paint for probably $25 total invested.

I could've fit everything flush so that the 4 pieces of angle laid flat against the cab, but because the cab has the big plastic corner protectors I made the side pieces hold the weight and the front/rear pieces are just for stability. All in all, a success. A sheet of 1/4" plywood would make a nice, stable bottom but I really don't see the need for it.

nice work and a good idea How much does that weigh?

My solution to heavy non-neo cabs was to build a modification of Sundogue's 2 1X10 cabs with a storage box on the bottom that has 4 casters as well as two fixed casters on the back. The amp head, the two spkr cabs, and the storage/roller box all clamp together and can be either rolled or tilted back as a one-piece unit, then unsnapped for throwing in the car or whatever. And no piece weighs more than 25 lbs.

But if you really like your 4X10, then what you did makes a lot of sense if you have the back to lift that cab as well as room in your car (I don't, ergo why I went that way). Wish I could weld..... Thanks for posting.

It really doesn't way much at all - maybe 6 pounds? the angle iron is 1/8" thick and the casters are super-light.

I built this for moving around on the floor, but for loading I can always roll it up some ramps I have into the bed of my truck. This will be tremendous help getting it from the door to the room where my bass stuff is without rolling through the house on a 2-wheeler. I also thought about just buying a furniture dolly, but this is a bit more elegant.

Why not just screw the casters to the cabinet?

Duh! Then you don't get to use the $2,000 welder

Kidding, I am sure the OP has a better reason.....
