buying an Ampeg SVT810E vs old

Sign in to disble this ad
So I'm thinking about buying a Ampeg SVT810E off of craigslist or through a trade. I recently played my rig through an ether an 80s or 90s SVT 810s ( it belonged to the Melvins at some point someone said) and it sounded simply perfect. Now I've heard some interesting things about the new Ampeg products so that's why I'm here. How do the new Ampeg SVT810E sound in comparison to the ones of the past. I know the 810E between 2000-2005 sounded dark and low, and that's not what I want. I play with a lot of distortion so its important that I get a cab that resembles the one I played out sonically.

I think the new ones sound very much like the older ones before 2000, plus they handle more wattage than most of them.

I wouldn’t hesitate to check out a modern era Vietnam fridge. They are using good drivers and plywood construction now. As always, let your own ears be the judge.
