They used to just have the 4ohm version of a 3015LF. What's the other option? |

1) Kappalite 3015LF, 4 ohms only at this time
2) Unspecified Celestion neo, 4 or 8 ohms
3)Kappa Pro LF (ceramic), 8 ohms
(3) puts cab weight at 75 pounds -- nope.
(2) is a crap shoot without some specs and probably worth half of what (1) goes for.
The original cab and crossover design is for the 3015LF. Game over, methinks. |

I don't see anything on Celestions site that's worth it. For $589, you absolutely can't beat the 3015LF....well....you really can't beat it at any price. |

For folks building them themselves, just the woofer by itself costs close to that. |

Still debating whether I want to buy an Avatar or build a fEARful.
Does anybody know if a cheaper midrange is used on the avatars?

Build the fEARful. |

Build the fEARful. | It's easy to type that into a web forum, but it's an entirely different thing to spend the hours it takes to build one of these. Even if I were to buy the do-it-yourself assembly kit from SpeakerHardware for the 15/6/1, I'm looking at about $800 just for the kit, not including any of the finish options. Then I'd be looking at 10 to 15 hours of assembly and finishing time to boot. Even if I were good with wood project assembly (I'm not) and I spent $20 on finishing, charging myself $10/hour, I'm looking at $920 for a self-built fEARful 15/6/1, not including shipping for the kit.
That's a pretty serious investment, compared to the ready-to-play TB153 at $589. (And personally, I work so much that I don't like to give up my free time so cheaply.)
I'd be more willing to consider a professionally assembled fEARful 15/6/1, but I doubt I'd find one for under $1000...
Which begs the question: will a pro-built 15/6/1 really sound so much better than the TB153 that it's worth double?
Maybe it is... Problem is, I've never heard either one. | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
