1969 ampeg svt. serial 087**0

its in awesome condition, has the tube relay and right serial no. some of the tubes had to be changed, i guess, but still has functioning originals.

is it worth 5 grand? ive seen lots of supposed 68 to 72 svts for sale for 2500 to 10,000 and none of them were made earlier than 71. apparently everyone says they have a 69... whats the cost? if nothings lost? it sounds like...well...it sounds like it just formed the San Andreas fault. and thats thru a 68 fender bassman cabinet. which they dont wanna sell. its also heavy like the weight of the world.

sorry if this thread is out of line, i just dont wanna get ripped off. i saw one sell on ebay for like 7 grand so im wondering if its worth it.

have a blessed day

Well that is certainly good news for me if true since I have one but I haven't seen them go for anywhere near that much, though it's been a good while since I checked out current prices.

If you are buying the amp as an investment, $5K is too high. I agree with Johnny, $2-3K is reasonable. If it were in perfect shape and included the two 810 speaker cabinets and dollies that it came with, then maybe $5K.

If you are buying it because you want this amp and can afford it, it is only money. Don't pass it up and always regret not buying it.

I was born in '69, so I tend to follow prices for gear made in my birth year.

IMO $5k is crazy high based on what I have seen them sell for.

I bought a very clean SVT made in February of 1970 with an extra set of NOS GE 6146b power tubes for about 2200 a few years ago. It's been a workhorse. I love it.

Way too high. The only thing that might pull a price like that would be a NOS in box, of which I've seen one for for that a few years ago, at the top of the vintage market.

Unless you are looking for collector's value or bragging rights, look for a any good '70s SVT that hes been recently fully serviced by a tech with lots of SVT experience. For around $1500 you can get a decently clean looking monster that won't cost you anything more for a few years running.

What was so special about the one that sold for 7k, out of curiosity?

Just because it has the Relay doesn't mean it's a 69, they still had the relay in early 70, this could be a bargaining point, but really if they want 5k then they won't bargain down to where it's actual value is.
Why has it not got all it's original tubes?, if it's that money it should be almost unused, as others have said mint and boxed.
My 70 was $1800 a few years ago, all original tubes and almost mint, buy a VR or as One Drop said, there are plenty of strong ones out there.
+1 on info for the 7k one too.
