Buying my first real cab tomorrow, (WOOT!), need a head....

The cards of Dame Fortune smile upon me, and I'll be able to pick up a (used) Ampeg 410HLF tomorrow. It's time to step up from my trusty old Peavey TNT115 Combo Amp. I have sine choice for used heads.

The following heads are available (to me, used) in my price range. They are:

MarkBass LMII - Read a lot about it, some love it, some hate it. Personally I don't like the yellow!
GK 700RB - Same as above, but not yellow...
GK 1001RB - A bit of a monster, apparently?
And MAYBE Ampeg SVT-3 Pro

I play mostly punk and hard funk. I use overdrive & distortion (sometimes) and play aggressively as well. I'm really wanting something that lets me hear individual notes, and not just a roar.

Of course, I'm bringing my bass and will spend LOTS of time comparing them, so my ears will decide. Just wondering if there's anything I should look for or expect.

I know a lot of folks will recommend the Ampeg head, but of course, it's the most expensive. To be honest, I don't HAVE to get a head tomorrow. I'm just getting the cab at a crazy good deal. I wouldn't mind saving my pennies for something better down the road. I was eyeing the (new) GK MB500, for example.

Many thanks!

FWIW, I own and love my Hartke LH1000. It's a tube pre-with SS interior...a hybrid I think they call 'em. I paid $650.00 new.

I play an MIA Precision and 2 2x 10 cabs. Classic & modern rock.

They have an LH500 model for less. It's been a few years since I bought mine (new) and I am sure the prices are even better for them now. If you want some of that fat-tube tone on the cheap.

Oh yeah! They got power...lotsa juice all day long!

I am NOT saying this just b/c I have one for sale, but you should REALLY consider the GBE series from Genz Benz. I owned a GK 800RB and LOVED it, the Genz Benz gave me all of that and more. The nice thing about the GBE600 is that you can throw 2 4ohm cabinets at it with NO problems either!

Any one you've listed would work, and they're all good amps. A test drive is what you need, because polls will only reveal what "others" prefer, not what your ears will.
