Buzzing amp?

Would just like to clear my head. is an amp supposed to have a buzz when you arn't touching the strings on the bass? i've been told 'yes its interferance' and also 'no itsn't earthed'? Thanks in advance

My does, but I think it's the lights in my room.

Yes - this is natural hum pickup for bass that is not humbucking and not shielded.

The buzz probably depending on where you are standing, yes?

You may want to be sure it is the bass that is buzzing and not the amp. Unplug the cord from the bass and short the two parts of the plug (tip and shaft) with something metal. The amp should be dead silent.

cheers, i'll try this asap. but the amp doesn't buzz in my conservatory? there are no tv or lights etc in there. is this why? and also is there anyway to stop this buzz. it hasnt always been like this and its VERY anoyying. thanks
