Buzzing in Direct Out lines

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi, my main stage amplifier is an Ampeg SVT 4PRO. I bought it last year and have been very happy with the versatility, I can get just about any bass tone! However, within the last week, I have had two different sound techs tell me that there is a buzzing that happens when they connect a line to both the balanced and unbalanced line out (using first one then the other). I suppose my question is A. Has anyone run into a similar issue? How much was the repair? B. Could it be an issue with grounding? C. Could this be a tube related issue or caused from constant gigging/handling/mishandling? I am in the Boston area and need to have this fixed, are there any Ampeg Gurus in the area? Thanks to all for reading! May your tone be clear and your bottom end rumble their insides!

I have an ampeg svt 3 pro and I have the same problem and haven't found a solution yet ....I'm not so sure its a amp malfunction as it is just a noisy out put

does it have a ground lift switch, or are they maybe running phantom power on the line?

The sound techs have told me that it is pretty pronounced, to the point of blocking the signal. I can use a direct box or mic my cab, but I ultimately would like to resolve this.

Try isolating the DI with a transformer. Something like the ART DTI. This one has two independent transformers with all the plug styles you need. Cost under $50 via Ebay.

if you can't fix it, the engineer could just run a gate on it in the meantime.
