| | | | Buzzing normal for Amps?

Hey,
so my problem is, I bought a SWR 350x head + SWR Golight 4x10 some months ago. When it arrived, there was a loud buzzing coming out of the amp. So I contacted the dealer and sent it back for repairing it. After I got it back, there was no real difference, although there was something made with the box. So I sent it back again and got it back after 4 weeks with a note, that said that it would be normal for amps with this kind of power.
The buzzing occurs around the mains adapter and is louder than the fan.
I called some experienced bassists that told me that an amp for this price has to be quite.
An hour ago the dealer contacted me again and said that every amp would be as loud as my amp, but I cant believe it because I also have a cheap amp with 200 watts power that is quite.
So, do I overreact and are too sensitive or does the dealer want to cheat me?
Greetings from Germany |

Sounds like a ground loop, caused by other grounded equipment, especially mains, and other current consuming items.
Check and see if you have a ground switch on the back of your head, if so, toggle the ground switch, then report back if you still hear the hum.

| | | | The dealer has the amp at the moment, but I tested it in difference rooms and even in another house and it was always the same noise. Even if the box isnīt connected to the head, it makes this buzzing. When I connect the box it gets louder. |

| | | | Just to get this straight - do you mean the buzzing is coming from the head even if the speaker cabinet is not connected? If so then that would be very unusual for a new amp from a respected manufacturer. There are usually only two things in an amp that can make a noise of their own - the mains transformer and the fan. Could you visit the dealer and listen together? That sort of noise won't matter in a gig but can be very annoying if you are trying to record! Keep complaining!

| | | | Yes, the buzzing comes from the head, even if the speaker cabinet isnt connected.
I think, its unusual, too, but the dealer and even fender-germany are saying that this buzzing depends on the machine type, but hey it is a amp for about 800 Euros and I want to have it quite and I believe that guys like Marcus Miller or Stanley Clarke would complain if their Amplification by SWR makes noisy buzzings.
The problem is that the dealer is far away from my home. he wanted to search an alternative head for me, because I said that I won`t take this head if it still that loud, but he said that every head is loud. So, I am of the opinion that the only thing that should be heard is the fan. Or am I wrong? |

If it was me, I would go to the dealer, and listen to the amp together with the dealer, like Sneakypete recommends. Then I would ask the dealer to plug in all his other amps, one at a time, and listen to those amps also. If your amp is the only one making the noise, he cannot deny your amp has a problem.

| | | | It's difficult, because it's about 8 hours to drive and because I am still pupil it will be hard to get there in the week.
But your amps donīt make this buzzings? |
