cab for 400rb/800rb

Sign in to disble this ad
Hi guys, Im returning to bass after a way to long break.

I plan to pick up either a 400 or 800rb, Im pretty sure the 400 will be enough for what I need. I play hard rock with 2 guitarist, They both use 2-12 combos about 50 watts or smaller, we usually mic, the amps though.

Im looking for a cabinet, probably 4-10s that has a tight punchy low, mid tone to it., My playing style changes depending on the mood of the song, so sometimes I use a pick, other times its slap and pop or finger style,

I've heard great things about Eden, SWR but I'd like to be in the $300 to $400 range used.

With my 80's 400rB I always came back to the older gk 410 (B) I believe, with the pink/blue logo. The 410t also was a good match I thought and they are under70 lbs, pretty cheap if you can find them, but the original speakers seemed to matter.
I ran that head and or 800RB with swr 410's Goliath III, and eden 410T, 410 xlt and 410xst.....always came back to the gk cabs. Extremely even voicing through the mids, maybe even a bit pronounced, but no scooping like i experienced with the swr, and just more overall volume than the eden cabs, even though the edens were very loud with eden heads, it just didn't match up well. Aslo an epi ul410, did not match well at all, probably not enough power.
IMO, the Gk cabs were very well voiced to the heads of the same era.....
i've heard much good about bag end 15's and even hartke transporters i think with the gk heads, but have no experince with them.

Hi AdamR,
I have an '86 800rb, and I use the Ashdown MAG 650w cab with Blueline speakers.
Ashdown cabs are GREAT with GK heads! Exceptionally clear, and can get up to blood-curdling volumes (not that I do, but it's handy to know your sound limitations haha).
If you go with Ashdown, make sure you get English or US made cabs - the others are not so nice.
I like this cab the best of all I tried in my playing experiences - none are as clear and straight-to-the-point. Most cabs I find muddy, clicky or just plain ordinary, Ashdown seems to be all about getting your sound right there in the pocket - and then some.
Cheers AdamR, hope this helps!
JOHN
