Cab Advice for my Ampeg

Sign in to disble this ad
Hey bassheads. Looking for opinion here. I have recentley purchased an Ampeg SVT3 Pro racked with a DBX266 Gate/Compressor. I love the sound I get in the studio but the rehearsal sapce has rubbish cabs. I get huge vibration from them even at low volumes (its a marshal 4x10 4ohm. So... Cab is the next choice. however, what to do ? I play 5 string and the B is detuned to A so I need something that moves alot of air. Do I go for a 4x12 8ohm and a 1 by 15 bin 8ohm (giving me 4ohm across the board with the bass bin handling the low end) or do I go for a single 4ohm 6x10 ? or 8x10 ? obviously the SVT3 is 250w at 8ohm and 450 a 4ohm....

Anyone got any ideas ?

The Ampeg 810 is a massive sounding cabinet that works well with detuned basses. You are not going to get the extreme low end out of it, but you will get audible bass tones that will cut through beautifully on stage. Honestly, you do not need the lowest rumblings of the detuned A string on stage. It will just become a muddy mess.

Good bass tone starts with your hands.
